Update:
Truck is still available. Seller is sending me invoice and copy of title.
Turns out the ad had simply expired.

Might happen after all. Not a big fan of drama.

But your not, so go take your little hobby farm kubota, the highly dubious stories you’ve repeated over & over again for the last 10 years, and troll somewhere else. I’m sure Mrs. Oldsmobile is tired of hearing them, too.

"911, what's your emergency?"
"oh uh I'd like to report a murder"

This does mean that it's not going to slip away from you a 2nd time right?
I'm not ribbing you but thinking that you missed it and being a little upset with yourself can be just the little bit of encouragement that you needed to make up your mind. 👍
Been there myself more than once.
How's that camo looking now. 😉

Camo looks a little better. I figured ad down means truck sold. Forgot they expire. 🫣

I missed all that. When I read posts this morning I thought you meant he took ad down because you bought it, LOL

He took the ad down, so I figured it was sold. Now I am waiting for a copy of the title.

I see Cat is coming out with a T4-5 emissions compliant engine badged a 3406 something. Will be interesting in as much as the 3406 compliant engine was a inefficient bust for Cat. Don't even physically resemble a 3406 series except for the paint job.

Far as ACERT issues, 'my dealer said' don't hold water with me because I got my hands dirty working on them, larger displasement and smaller displacement. Some were just fine, some were problematic but all the emissions compliant 3406 Series with the 'furnace' were problematic. Least the Cats didn't puke coolant mixed with engine oil like the DDEC engines did or the Cummins engines that ate themselves from failed ceramic furl pump rollers failing.

Got to see all of them, close up and personal.

Once the EPA got involved with their emissions mandates, everything went downhill rather quickly.
Well what my dealer tells me I listen to because he was one of the best Cat truck engine guys around. Regardless, everyone has their opinion and I never had any issues with my Cat's other than some minor problems with the 3406C PEEC.
Loved my 3406B's, 3406E's and my C15 6NZ's and C13 and C15 ACERT's
The C15 did have a stronger bottom end and valve train than the 3406E though.

Keep in mind I'm talking ACERT's pre 2007. I never touched the ones with a DPF.
Only DPF/SCR engines I had were DD Detroit's, Cummins ISX and X15's. I'm not a Cummins fan but I liked the way the DD13, 15 and 16's ran other than their crappy emissions system and failing belt tensioners.

I don’t love the DEF either but I wanted a truck with an automatic and enough power to get out of its own way and as you’ve probably seen those are hard to find in a pre def truck especially a pre def truck that’s not clapped. Working ac is another big bonus which the def truck has.
Thats exactly what I want, but if I can make this deal happen AND its a decent truck, I will have the big power, big auto, AC and no DEF/DPF. (y) 🤞

I retired just as DEF was becoming mainstream actually. My seat of the pants impression with the DDEC engines was the miserable torque ride, something that Cat especially had. With a diesel, torque rise is everything and I'd love to have an NZ engine but I don't. I have a 3406 B model. Guy down the road has a 1693 TA Clatterpillar. Talkk about am expensive engine to work on, there is is. The 1693 was origionally designed for lighter duty rail use.

I am thankful I don't have to deal (own) any emissions compliant engines but I'm hopeful the current administration rolls back some of the insane emission rules put in place (but are expensive on the owners part) to comply with.

Allison's are the best slushbox, but still a slushbox and I don't care for any slush-o-matic. Just like I don't align with hydrostats. Anytime you have a fluid coupling in any driveline, you have parasitic loss. Best power transmission efficiency will always be a hard (gear transmission) of power.

We agreed on a price. I asked for an Invoice on his company letterhead including date, price, VIN and truck description.
Done.

Also, I asked for a copy or photo of the title, to verify the title VIN matches the trucks VIN.
Seller says no. Says he will only give original to my bank after he receives check. I am not asking for original, just a copy to cross match VINs (I am getting loan to buy it, then paying off this fall when crop sales hit).

Is there something inappropriate about me asking for a copy or a photo of the title?

sounds like he doesn't understand your request, restate "I'm not asking for the original yet, I just need to see a picture of the title so I can verify from a thousand miles away that everything matches"

Right? Thats what I’m thinking. I just want to verify the numbers match. I’m taking all the risk here.

I assume you're not handing funds over remotely, you're just trying to set it all up so that you show up, take a quick final once-over, and do the paperwork, and drive away?

No. I've seen dealers post those numbers within a CL ad, which makes it easier to find the exact specs of the truck.

It's not like you're a tire kicker or scammer. You've been persistent enough to demonstrate you want to buy the truck.

Maybe state he can physically write the words "Copy, not for proof of ownership or sale" across the copy page. Not electronically redacted, physically written on paper and copied.
I will admit, I'd be sorta careful too if I were him the amount and type of new scams going around. Gotta think, we all know you and know your a standup trustable guy, he doesn't know you from a hole in the wall.

I recently was in the process of buying a used trailer. I asked the seller for a copy of the title. He sent me a picture of the title and the bill of sale, and the numbers did not match. I walked away from the deal.

All of the titles that I've ever seen have a front side stating the State it's titled in, vehicle description and VIN and the owners name and any lein or leinholder(s).
The back side is where assignment/sale takes place.
You couldn't do anything (title wise) with just a photo of the front.
I believe he simply misunderstood your request.

You can’t do anything with a license plate number either yet half the adds are blocking it out.
