Hello Everyone
just replaced me starter that was toast with an after market unit. Problem is that the fuel pump won't go back into the block all the way ( about 1/4 " ) short of the block before the bottom of the pump hits the starter.Questions: 1. can I build the pump out from the block with gaskets and have the pump still work ? 2. can I grind a little of the bottom of the pump casing off to make it fit ? 3. Can I just replace it with an electric fuel pump ? If so any special pump needed ?
Thanks for all the advice

If you move pump back away from block you'll also be moving it away from the camshaft lobe that operates the pump. Yes an electric fuel pump can be substituted for the manual pump. IIRC JD offers a plate to cover hole in the block.
