Question about trimmer line welding

/ Question about trimmer line welding #21
Can you tell us what trimmer model and what head model you are using? Need that to make suggestions for you. Normally the gator magnum supertwist .095 is a very reliable line. I have run SpeedFeed 400 heads for years without any welding problems with .095 supertwist in them, including what I would call very severe service cutting heavy grass and edging beds with the trimmer.

Only time I ever see it is if the string isn't wrapped tight enough period.

/ Question about trimmer line welding #23
I have never had to worry about tensioning the line when reloading the SpeedFeed 400 or 450 head. Might be worth investigating if you can get one for the Husqvarna trimmer you use. The videos says not to try a 500, so use 400(smaller- max .105 line) or 450(larger - max .120 line). They should be around $25 to $35.

/ Question about trimmer line welding #24
I have Stihl trimmer and head, line welding or getting stuck does happen and is very annoying but fortunately for me it doesn’t happen a lot. Loading The Stihl head is a very annoying job I have been wanting to replace it with an Echo head for years but every time I go shopping for one they are out of stock. Thankfully I learned to avoid the Echo 500 head today and keep watching for a 400 or 450 Echo head.
I’m going to try the WD40 trick on my goofy Stihl head next time I use it, the soaking in water tip also sounds like it might cure the problem but the WD40 trick seems easier.

I have been using the WD trick this season and so far no issues! Although never had the welding problem!

/ Question about trimmer line welding #26
I run a SpeedFeed 400 and Husqvarna .095 line, no problems. In the past, with the + shaped lines of other mfgs, it would weld once in a while. The original non-SF head also sucked. The WD40 trick works too.

/ Question about trimmer line welding #27
I use the Stihl Tri cut head myself, no trimmer line required. The Tri cut head uses 3 swinging and easily replaceable hard nylon 'blades'. Much less overall expensive and no pesky line to deal with.

The Stihl head fits my Echo just fine btw.
I read the link is reply #5, surprisingly it says to soak/store the string line and blades in water
before use.

/ Question about trimmer line welding #28
No mater what brand i use, cheap or expensive, after half of the spool on the trimmer it start welding and does it every 2-3 minutes.
Any idea why it happens and what is the remedy?
I'm assuming you are winding the new string on taut and evenly ? Otherwise the line will not feed. Have you greased the head like some are required to done ? That would make it get hot...
