First time poster long time reader.

I have a Ford New Holland 1925/HST/R4/FEL that I bought to assist with building my home. It is a good tractor but I wanted something with slightly more power. After alot of research and hands on looking I purchased a new Kubota 4240/CAB/HST/FEL with quick attach bucket. It is fresh out of Atlanta and hopefully delivers this week to the dealer with delivery to me first week of July.

Thanks to all the posters here who unknowingly helped me with information. I found alot of good reading.

Well . . . my current equipment is all 5', I sure would love to have a nice 6' finish mower. I really have not researched Kubota mowers, so I guess I should search the threads and see what folks have to say.

Ratts, you're gonna be really pleased with it! I took delievery of a new L4740/HST/cab/FEL last week (with the new "-1" engine) and after about 20 hours on it I'm getting real comfortable with it. Easy to operate, and plenty of power to load the HD bucket to the max and transport across some rough terrain.

My only disappointment is with the Bush Hog 286. Having chosen that more expenseive model (and the larger h.p. tractor to run it!) over the lighter duty Hogs, I mananged to bend the stump jumper plate already - which resulted in a *major* vibration. I was mowing over ground that had been previously shredded, and with the lack of rain here in south central Texas, the grass and weeds are very thin. For that reason, I had cut back on the engine speed and was running the PTO around 450-470 RPM. The dealer thinks I must have hit a stump as the plate was bent very badly (if so, I never heard it hit) and that by running at the lower than recommended PTO speed, the slip clutch may not have protected the system as designed. He also wondered if I may have been traveling too fast, but I was in low range medium gear at about 2200 engine rpm most of the time (can't remember what mph that is) and again, doing some really light mowing.

Anyway, they picked up the tractor and got me back in business after only 2 days, so that kind of service is great. I'll definitely be running at full PTO speed from here out (540 rpm), but I just hope this damage was a fluke, because ultimately I intend to use it to shred some serious stuff!

As I said, other than that I'm lovin' it - and very spoiled! :D

Took delivery today at lunch, and received some more pointers on maintenance. I will post pictures, so far . . . I like it a lot.

I purchase equipment from a no name supplier. They carry extremely well built (my opinion) Italian made equipment. I have had a 5'-0 finish mower that I might have abused on occasion in privet, it wanted to be a bush hog. I have had no problems over 4 years and I have family that has been buying equipment here for years. I will be up grading to 6'-0 equipment. Prices for 6' finish mower I believe are about $1200, brush hog about $1000. You can purchase light, medium and heavy duty equipment typically, and specify your gear box. I believe the manufacture is Jolly. Check out their pictures and info.

You will really enjoy the L4240. I have one that has close to 50 hours on it. Will probably take it to dealer for the 50 hour service this week. That will leave a big mark in the pocket book!
I have only used a geared tractor before never used an HST tractor nor one with a loader. The HST is fantastic for the loader work and getting around in some of the tight areas I have on the property.
