Tractor
John Deere 5225
I have a backhoe mounted on my JD 5225. Facing to the rear I can't see my dashboard. Has anyone found a solution to being able to monitor engine temp., oil pressure, etc. when using the PTO to operate a piece of equipment where the operator is not in the operator's position. Some type of remote engine temp. readout is what I am looking for. I've already considered just adding another temperature gauge and running the wires to the rear when I'm on the BH. Any other ideas???

I just can't seem to get the feeling you have. We pumped a large pond out to do work on it. It had a drain but was slow. We had a pto pump made up 20 ft behind tractor. Backed it down pond dam and chained to a Tree on other side. Tractor was on a severe angle. Checked oil and scratched the stick where it should be. Cranked it and checked it twice a day for two weeks. Never killed it. Just fuel and topped off oil, water. That was 30 years ago, tractor still runs fine.

More info. about why I want to do this. After using my tractor for several hours (FEL work) and then a short job using the backhoe I stopped for lunch. All OK with tractor. When I came back to the tractor after lunch there was a large puddle of coolant under it and coolant was still dripping down from the engine deck. Found a large abraded area on the bottom of the radiator (plastic bottom portion). This thinned out area finally let go with a crack about 6 inches long and dumped the coolant. If this had happened when I was operating the BH I'm not sure I would have discovered it in a timely manner. Yes, low probability (tractor is 15 years old & original radiator) but why take the chance. Will probably mount an electric water temp & oil pressure gauge at the BH station with quick disconnects for when I dismount the BH

They should never let plastic get involved with tractors.
