I think the check valve would solve the problem of the scarifier bar leaking down, but I don't know if it would solve the fitting popping out. I have the same problem with leakdown on my scarifier cylinder, and was thinking of doing the same thing with the check valve.
Would you need a pilot operated check valve, or can you just use a standard check valve?
