I am not sure just where my question fits, so I put it here.

Wherever there is a pivot point on my loader, there is quite a bit of "slop" in the side-to-side fit of things.

For instance, the cylinders can slide back and forth about an inch in their brackets.

At the bucket, the cylinders have about two inches of side-to-side play.

I am thinking of cutting some pipe/tube to slip over the pins and take away this slop, making two of these spacers at each pivot point, thus centering the cylinders, etc.

Is this a good idea ??; or, should I leave the "slop" ??

2 inches sound excessive. All the pin points on my FEL have about an 1/8" of "slop" which I dont have or see a problem with. If I had more than that, I would shim it up. I would suggest contacting your dealer to look at a similar model and compare. It sounds like someone may have replaced the cylinders or maybe the original dealer put the wrong cylinder on where you have the 2 inch slop.

Anything is possible, as it is a 1972 model.

I am going to split the differences and shim on both sides of each connection point and aim for = or - 1/16" slop and that should tighten things up nicely.

On closer examination, there is a definite difference in the two mast cylinders, so I figure one, and probably both, have been replaced at different times.

It may not even be the original bucket.

You are a genius !!!

I happen to have miles and miles of conveyor belt that I scavenged from the quarry that would fit the ticket fine.

Come to think of it, I have plenty of various thickness bias tires that I can cut plugs from the sidewalls and save my belt for something else.


I even have a genuine tire "plug-cutter" that cuts an inch diameter plug through a tire; it's real intention is to cut a perfect hole for a big plug-patch to pull through.
