L2800 Hydrostat Whines

My new L2800 arrived yesterday. The hydrostat makes a high pitched whining noise whenever there is the least bit of a load on the engine. Even going up a slight incline will do it. I have an FEL and 5 ft brushhot attached to it. Is this normal? Too much weight?

I've got a L3400 that makes the same noise. I believe it to be normal. I think it is just the hydro pump doing the work. You might increase your rpm's a little and see if it is the same.

Make sure your in the correct range as well. High range and a load equals more whine.

My L5030 HSTC also whines at high RPMs, particularly under load. I believe this to be normal for hydrostatic transmissions. I consider it to be a good thing... means I'm actually working instead of running around.

A certain amount of whine is normal for the hydro units. I really didn't realize that mine was making the noise until I had the hydro fluid replaced at 50 hours with super UDT. That made it like a new tractor. It lowered the noise by a huge amount. The Deere and CNH units I've test driven also made the same noise. I wouldn't worry any.

Since we can't hear it, it's hard to say whether it's the same whine /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif but both my B7100 and my B2710 hydros had a whine that I wasn't accustomed to in straight gear transmissions, so I sure suspect that yours is normal.

I had the same experience on my L3130. The dealer had used NH hydro/tran fluid when he set it up. I changed to SUDT at 50 hours and every thing quieted down. Almost no whine. I did notice a little more leak down on the hydraulics however.

That's part of the reason I bought an L4400, gear drive. I didn't think I could put up with a hydrostatic whine the rest of my life. But I'm sure you get used to the noise, or the fluid might be the cause.

My L2800HST whines also, I think it is the nature of any Hydo tranny.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thinks that. All of the hydros that I have ever driven have had that irritating sound. I couldn't live with it. I would like to drive one with SUDT and see if it really makes that much difference. I know that my gear tractors are real quite most of the time and that is what I like.

My B3030 has a lot of hydro whine in high range, almost none on low & medium. The dealer says it's normal?

I was beginning to wonder if mine was the only one that was "quiet" in medium and low.
