Kohler Engine

Good afternoon!

I Was looking for some advice on a Kohler 27 HP Commercial engine.

Symptoms:
-Using 1/2 Qt of oil in two hours and fouling the plug on the #1 cylinder.

Repairs:

-Pulled the head and found a burnt and broken exhaust valve. Replaced the exhaust valve, head gasket and all the breather components.

The engine is still fouling the plug a bit and there is still excessive crankcase pressure?

What caused the valve to break? What did the valve guide look like? Did you relap the valve seat. Is the return oil passage from the valve spring cavity to crank case open? Could be filled with carbon caused by the burnt valve.

Did an oil ring go bad? Possibly the spring tension device. Won't effect compression but will sure make them smoke. Only way to tell is to pull the piston.

Im not sure what caused the valve to break, but it had a nice chunk out of it on one side. The valve guide looked good and with very little play. I did take my time and lapped the valve seat on the new valve. The oil passages were clear.

I originally thought the breather was causing the problem and replaced all the components including the hose to the carb.
