It's been since '87 since I was a JD dealer service manager and I have no utility tractor service manual but I think you're correct that rad & oil cooler need to be removed to access hyd pump

thanks, thats what I thought. Also I am sure it would be easier if the loader was raised but as I have no way of securing it is it possible to get the pump out with the loader down?

A safe way to secure loader in the up position is to cut some sections of angle iron the correct length of exposed rod and place angle iron as "STOPS" held in place with a couple of hose clamps per cylinder

thanks for that tip, what are your thoughts on the oil cooler? the shop that is rebuilding my pump said it was okay to have a radiator shop clean it well, but all information I have read says it has to be replaced?

I've had oil coolers cleaned/repaired by rad repair shop on ag tractors way back when I was a JD dealer service manager.
