It’s been a long time since I’ve been on this site. The old 410 has served me well but one of the tilt cylinders on the loader is now leaking. I rebuilt them many years ago but I’ll be darned if I remember how to take it apart. I know the bucket end unscrews but I think there’s a lock pin somehwere and my notes don’t show it. Any of you old timers out there remember how to do this?

I used to have a JD4100 with 410 loader. I actually removed and reinstalled that cylinder. From what I remember the cylinder was easily removed with wrenches. Just jiggle the joystick a few times after shutting off the engine to release pressure.

Thanks but I need to know how to get the cylinder rod guide off the cylinder itself.

Does it have the wire threaded in there to lock it?

My mistake. Your photo shows it on the loader. I removed it and took it to a hydraulic shop.

I cleaned off that part, looks to be just a dimple. I’m pretty sure the rod guide just screws off with a spanner wrench and that dimple is a guide. I’ll find out in a few days when the weather gets a little warmer.

Well I finished the project. The guide in the cylinder is held in by a wire. Unfortunately I turned the guide the wrong way WhenI tried to remove it, that and I did not realize that the wire must be started outside the guide via the small notch in the guide.
To remove this type, the wire which has a small rise on it that sits in the notch on the guide. It must be pried out and then the guide turned clockwise and when inserting a new wire , the guide must be turned counter clockwise. The rest was pretty easy except for the two piece seal on the piston. The inner seal is just a large O ring that keeps the outer seal expanded. The new outer seal is made of a very stiff material and was a bear to not only get on the piston but the get it compressed enough to slide into the cylinder.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help, truly appreciate it.
Oh, and the wire comes not in a circle but straight and goes on very easily.
