Yanmar SA424 TLB
Week one of my new Yanmar SA424, my wife has me pulling out 8 stumps from an area she hopes to garden. The first 3 were the smallest, maybe 6-8” diameter. I did all 3 of those last Saturday. The 4th was a good one... about 16” diameter. I had to dig down pretty deep to cut all the roots I could find with a Sawzall. Even then, it took a combination of some vertical hand-winching with my 4T Comealong along with a good couple pulls with the tractor in a similar direction. I think I need to find a way to get more upward leverage on these stumps. They stay pretty thick all the way down and have very deep and solid taproots. I need to pull them UP not sideways. Any ideas? 60562323852__7B5D3F51-44DB-4623-B44B-83FE6DF0E333.JPG60557404292__0A08D0CB-64FF-4A9A-AF6D-7AF046679A71.JPGIMG_1716.JPG

Next time it may be easier to pull the stump out first and then cut the tree down. :greenthumb:

I've done something similar to that video with a 4' stout log on end next to the stump.

What about the old tire rim trick. Get as big of a rim as you can find and drape the chain over the rim to redirect the pull upwards.

I made this "A" frame out of 1.5 X 3/16 angle iron for pulling out some large bushes before I had my tractor/loader. It worked pretty good but it is only about 5' tall. I think taller one would do the work a little faster.
