This is demonstrably false. The article shows the top EVs range. Only the Tesla S approaches what a typical gas car range would be. Most EVs have a range of around 200 miles. Maybe of you compare them to big trucks, but I'm guessing those have bigger tanks and still get 400 miles of range. Some have 30+ gallon tanks and go over 600 miles per fill.

Typical car today has a 15 gallon tank and gets 25 mpg. (not the most range, this about average). My Outback gets about 540 miles per tank.

My family has been living in North America for 3 generations, we have always used horses,,
This new machine that they want me to convert to will just not suit our needs,

The manure from the horses is used to fertilize our garden,,
the only thing that comes out of that tractor is exhaust that will surely poison our air.

How will the oil that drips from the tractor not poison our soil,, ??
The lubrication oil simply leaks from the machine and is replaced,,
it never needs to be changed, because so much leaks out.
I have read in farm journals about how oil comes out of the ground in places like Texas,
and it kills everything for miles.

Who is going to produce these tractors? How will those workers get paid?
When I need another horse,
I simply take my horse "Jenny" over to "visit" Farmer Brown's stud horse for the afternoon,

I take Farmer Brown two dozen eggs, and Jenny comes home with a smile on her face,
then 11 to 12 months later, I have a replacement (sometimes two!!).
Who could EVER give me a new tractor for the cost of two dozen eggs??

There is no way to safely move that "fuel oil" to the farm,, and the cost!!
All Jenny needs is a little hay, and an occasional scoop of grain.

AND, who will ever fix that tractor!!?? IT is so complicated,,
If Jenny has a problem, I just give her a dose or 2 of castor oil,, in three days, she is perfect.
I could not even get a blacksmith to come to the farm to work on that tractor in three days,,

Our government better rethink the allowing the manufacture of internal combustion engines.
If they are ever used in cities,,
the city will no longer bring me the free loads of manure that they shovel from the streets.

Our society, as we know it, will surely fail!!

Had a Cutlass Vista Cruiser with a 454 when gas went to 70 cents a gallon and had to give it away...

Moss... that TV is 6 kW per day but since it is entertainment and heater it pencils out.

2400 square feet 1950's split level with 1960, 70 and 80's appliances and original aluminum single pane casement window and average year round kW use is 12 per day... gas water and heat...

Remember, it's a heater in the summer, too. Increases air conditioning costs.

About 15 years ago, when I was still in I.T., and we'd buy servers, they started coming with BTU ratings. That was for a couple reasons, which I'm sure you know. You could figure that into your overall plant's HVAC plan. If you add X BTUs to a room, you'll either have to increase your cooling if it's a hot room, or decrease your heating if it's a cold room. A lot of places started using servers to help heat their buildings. Instead of sucking heat out of the outside air or ground to heat a building, they'd suck the heat out of the server room to help heat the building.

Heck, for several years Notre Dame experimented with putting servers in the desert dome at the local parks department conservatory to help heat it. Don't know what ever became of that project.

This is a good one! It's true that oil drilling is not exactly environmentally friendly if the products and water is not disposed of properly. The brine from wells used to be released into local water ways to the detriment of those ecosystems.

On the other hand, we simply trade one pollution for another. Cities still have a higher level of particulates and probably causes some health problems in people. However, is that better or worse than piles of animal waste breeding flys and other diseases or getting into the water ways. Even now some water ways have too much bacteria content from the area cities at times.

I am for battery powered stuff when it works. But it is not zero emission in most cases. Power still needs to be generated.

Guess it's OK as long as it is generated in somebody else back yard, state or country.

Then how about disposing of all those batteries? clean, no polluting of the soil and water table?

The cars were running out of gas, as the drivers sat there and idled their engines.
The people were cold.

One "SMALL" news article told the story of how a Tesla owner stayed comfortable the entire time,,
The article went on to state that the driver of the Tesla had no concerns about carbon monoxide poisoning,,

Wind turbine blades can be recycled. It is cheaper to bury them than to truck them to the facilities that can recycle them. For what its worth poor engineering in the construction of the blades themselves saw some of the earlier blades have very very short life spans

I have to wonder what kind of shape we'll all be when all gasoline powered items such as cars, mowers, etc. are converted to electric. Our electric power grid seems so vulnerable that one little hitch and we'll all be totally powerless.

And how about the cost of replacing the batteries on electric cars, trucks, tractors, etc.. Or, is everything going to become disposable once the original batteries die?

I was one of the first to send $100 to GM for the opportunity to preorder a 2023 electric pickup.

At around $42,000 plus for a base model it sounds like a viable option, so why not? I’m in the market as my 2010 and 2011 chevy and GMC pickups are ready to retire at 273,000 each since I bought them new.

My concern was that the truck is based on the same chassis that everything is based on with GM… so is it just replacement of the chassis if you have a problem with battery packs, or is everything replaceable inside that chassis?

The cost to harness Any available power or energy source has a cost to either capture it or transport it if necessary. In the end we have to ask tough questions….and then we have to listen to the answers.

I often think of just how much things would change ,

IF the researchers actually get Fusion power to work.
And if something Like Lockheed Martins Compact unit were a reality and not financially unfeasible for states / country.

Fusion always seems to be a decade or two away but At the point it is solved and works :

We could go to a more Decentralized Grid- which is good from a security and robustness point.
Virtually unlimited growth potential if usage needs increase.
The question of whether battery electric tools/ vehicles make sense would be settled as far as pollution is concerned
Maybe even clean enough that those of us who want to own both or just dino powered equipment would be "allowed" to keep them because they would be a negligible contributor in the grand scheme of things.

Oh well, Back to the real world from a hopeful dream...

Meanwhile, I came here as the result of a search trying to find an electric tractor because I WANT ONE.

I have two acres that I take care of with a Simplicity Legacy that's 23 years old and has gotten to the point where it requires more work to keep running than I'm willing to put into it. Meanwhile, I began collecting electric tools and vehicles 7 years ago... The Legacy is the last thing I own that's gas powered, and I can't wait to replace it with something electric.

macindude, I mean this in all sincerity, as I'm not against electrics as a category of tools...

May all your electric dreams come true in your "pursuit of happiness" as should be your choice and right as an American should these choices be market available.

In my "pursuit of happiness" under the Constitution of the United States, I choose Gas or Diesel to get the job done, I have a choice and it's my right under free market conditions. I would not want to "mandate" you buying gas or diesel when you want electric. Forcing me under an edict or tyrannical, ill thought laws to buy what I don't want and loose what's left of a free market, is wrong.

I did not bring this article up to argue electric or gas/ diesel, but bring attention to a concerning trend that effects us all, our freedom in the Garden Tractor Market, by unconscionable governing mandates that may not get much attention until the freedom is gone.

In my opinion, if we must mandate something, then "Mandate Freedom", and in the USA "Mandate the Constitution" and "Free Market".

I would suspect the USA is following suit like most of the rest of the world or risk bearing huge penalties for not participating.

Again, not about change, it's about our "Freedom", and I'm with your Truckers, they have protested your Tyranny with extreme dignity, compassion, peace, and over-all good will. My sincere respect for them in Canada's fight for "Mandating Freedom".

boakley, It sounds like your in favor of forcing a zero emissions policy, that is your right to have that opinion. I have no quarrel with you having an opposing opinion, I'm thankful we still have the ability for now to have differing opinions. But I disagree with forcing the will of the people, short-cutting both our great democracies. I'm also guessing that there are differences of opinion between Canadians and Americans (rhetorical I know, I have been to many places in Canada, The Yukon is my personal favorite), but that's OK. When Countries start to conform to singleness of mind in everything, democracy loses. How sad.

GT... your assumption that I am a zero emissions type of person is wrong.... I have multiple snowmobiles, atv's, half a dozen diesel tractors, fishing boat and drive a gas F150 to get my groceries. We used to plow our fields with a tracked bulldozer. I run my boilers on wood I cut myself and heat my outdoor pool to 90 degrees with wood. If I could I would use coal but it is being banned here.

I have worked in agriculture all my life and have worked and lived in E. Europe, S.E. Asia, the U.S. and in Canada.

That being said I am also a realist and see what is happening all around me. Kids in school are being trained to be "woke", our politicians are getting younger and younger and seem to forget what its like to struggle for basics, I watched the Super Bowl and I think 100% of the car adds were for electric vehicles, etc....

I am an old salmon and just don't have the energy anymore to fight the onslaught current.

So I would say I am a realist not a environmentalist or zero emissions kinda guy. So for me I no longer care what they do as I have 0 ability to make any change. I hope to get another 15 years out of this body. But I do fear for the younger generation and doubt life will be as good or as easy as I had.

btw: yesterday 4 people in the protest at Couts were arrested for plotting to kill RCMP members (our federal police force that we have cause we have such a big country but so few people that many jurisdictions just cannt afford their own forces). Plans, guns, body armour, ammunition all found in their trailers on the line. So maybe just maybe not all were their for the right reason.
