Can't really compair the strength of the tranny of a 10 ton vehicle to a 6000# tractor though..

I'm not saying they are not strong. I'm saying that I think it will be a 'time will tell' issue to see if the trannies perform as long , as well, and with as little maintenance, and at the same or less cost, as a gear tranny.

"As far as being strong, I recently (well, in the last 10 years or so anyway, time is becoming relative) got to drive one of the giant Titan coal mine haul trucks a few feet or so. (didnt' trust me much further ) It was an automatic. I don't think they make 'em much bigger than that, and it was basically a hydro."

I don't know specifically about the Titan truck, cut all of the very large rock trucks I have been around (Electra Haul and goodbarry) are generator/electric wheel motor types like a locomotive.

Electro drive would be nice in a tractor, end up with a big mobile 3 phase generator!

Slowzuki,
Yes but I am not sure what I would do with a tractor as big as my house with a V16 diesel in it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Those big beasts sure do suck the diesel too /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
