I got a roll of 1" black nylon hose protector on Amazon:

Electriduct 1" Nylon Protective Hose Sleeve - 25 Feet - Black - $30.00​

Then whether I use OEM or have replacement hoses made locally, I simply slip a length of this nylon over the hose and zip tie it to the metal ends before reinstalling. It makes hoses last twice as long.
The trick - for me at any rate - is to have is to have a roll of it on hand. You can buy it OEM on some hoses - for about 4x the cost.

The fabric wrap is way cheaper and EASIER to install

Disconnect one hose end fitting and slide the fabric protector on, reconnect hose end fitting.
Very simple!

With quick connectors that's easy. Hoses going from a pump to motors, for example, aren't removed so easily.

Just takes a wrench to remove a hose end fitting.

Log loaders get severe use. Around the grapple they use a heavy plastic spiral wrap.

Good planning. McCarr has this under "Abrasion resistant sleeving". I keep a selection of sizes on hand for a variety of protective uses, including hydraulics. My favorite positive is that it will stop a hydraulic fluid jet if the hose ever ruptures.

I used the spiral hose wrap - like Big Barn pictured. Purchased at local "hydraulics shop" - House of Hose, Spokane, WA. Used on all exposed hydraulic hose.
