As others have mentioned, since it is on an end wall with metal screwed to on side it is fine. It doesn't need to be fixed in any way.

Since one side appears to be covered, I would just run a length of 2x8 long on one side. Using screws and gorilla glue. Probably would go past the splintered area at least 6" or more. Since u can't use c clamps, the screws sb good enough.

If it really makes you nervous, go outside and see if there is a row of screws attaching the metal to that chord. If there is, the metal will hold it as well as anything you add. If not, you can add a row (one or two screw in each panel). Stay in the bottom third of the chord.Be sure to use screws for attaching metal.))

If you look at the pictures he posted, the attic that is being added is supported by the posts and not the truss.
