So it is a DPDT switch like I said... From the Wikipedia page I got the pictures from: DPDT switch internally wired for polarity-reversal applications: only four rather than six wires are brought outside the switch housing.

Those lighted switches are the greatest. We have a walkout basement, and it was impossible to find the switch at night when entering the basement. Installed a switch that lit up when turned off, now we are living the good life...except for those times when *someone* places an object on the floor between the door and light switch (about 2 steps)...

I concur, just hooked up a new 3-way lighted switch in my walk in basement, no more banging the wall, knocking stuff off trying to find the switch. I liked the idea so much that I bought a couple for the garage. As much as these 3-way single pole double throw switches cost, they better last a while.
