so, how did you slot the axle for the wheel hubs??.. a milling machine is needed for that because of the tight tolerances and accuracy needed..

I don’t think he did. It looks like the hubs are clamped onto the axles.

that would slip too easily, the clamps are probably so a c-clip wasn't need to hold the wheels from falling off..

Can mill it on the lathe
how?. I've worked for a defense contractor for years making parts for jet fighters and helicopters, using all kinds of machines, and that was NEVER done.. the only way possible to do that on a lathe is VERY unconventional, you'd need to lock up the chuck, either by tying the brake on with a rope, or make a jig for that, and drill the ends of the shaft for a live center, and make it tight against the shaft, and make a special bit with the exact width needed, and use the power feed to essentially scrape the steel horizontally a little at a time. and I don't see the shaft drilled for a live center..

He built a horizontal milling machine. Anyways, can be done on the lathe, specially if you have a milling attachment like he also built in his lathe.

Mount shaft to cross slide, end mill or keyset cutter mounted in the spindle. Done all the time.

Would like to see the mill the OP made.
