OK, Im way confused and cant remember how to decipher a window size of '2860' (as specified in the blueprints)... I am pretty sure it isnt 28" wide x 60" tall.. and Im thinking it is 2' 8" x 6' 0"...

Am I even close?

thanks

Bases upon my 3D drawing program it would be 2' 8" x 6' 0". /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

32 inches tall by 72 inches long.....Measure and see if it's this. If it is then 2'8" x 6 is right

28x60 is pronounce two eight by six oh

It means the window is two feet, eight inces wide and six feet tall.

Some window manufacturer's use a differenet numbering system for different types. Marvin uses the single sash size to indicate a double hung...it has no relation ( numerically ) to the rough opening of the entire unit. Doors are always listed width ( feet inch ) x height ( feet inch ) like stated earlier two eight is 2'-8".

Be careful since each window style and each manufacturer have different roughing dimensions.

Years ago I drew plans for a house and had some windows dimensioned 6' 0".
The carpenter framed the openings 60" and had too tear out and reframe.
Don't know why he didn't frame the 3'0" doors 30 inches. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

FINALLY! A question for us carpenters!

As mentioned in several post's, feet+inches, width then highth, "double hung" will indicate size of ONE sash. Manufacturers will furnish rough opening size upon request.

Doors use same measurements (wide X tall) feet then inches. Rough opening for doors is 3" wider and 2" taller than door size. Remember that door opening should be determined "AFF" (Above finished floor) Should you be laying 3/4" hardwood floor later, opening needs to be 3/4" higher to compensate.

Hi Brian,
I believe these windows are Anderson, double hung, vinyl clad, 28x50. 32" by 5ft. If this helps at all. The valances I made a few years ago to accomodate my wifes looped curtains. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
