JD4710
It is laying on it's side. How big of a winch does it take to pull it back upright? Was considering pulling on the loader mount at mid tractor.

Not sure about the size of the winch you need, maybe post some pictures so experienced members can best help you in that area. Whatever you do once you get it back on its wheels, do not try to start it right away, or serious engine damage will occur. Take your time, read up on this subject as much as you can, and again, do not try to start it before going thru a specific procedure. If you get in to much of a hurry, and try to start it without going thru several very important steps, SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE WILL OCCUR, AND IT WILL BE VERY COSTLY !

Glad you weren't seriously injured. You don't necessarily need a winch. A ratcheting come-a-long will easily right that tractor. I think I would also secure the high side with a strap or two to ensure the tractor doesn't flop the other way while pulling it over.

As BleedingOrange points out, DO NOT start it without checking a few things. I've never had to do it, but I'm sure some experienced folks here can guide you through the process.

I would pull at the loader mount and the top of the ROPS with the strap going OVER the rear tire. The tire sticks out far enough to keep the strap off the fender. Set the brake to keep the tire from rotating when pulling.

Wow! That sure looks like a major pucker incident. As @ruffdog says, use both the ROPS and the loader tower. The tower may not have much strength to lateral forces so I'd use the ROPS for the most pull. Some safety line wouldn't hurt either--So it doesn't finish rolling down that hill.

Two suggestions: If you can get it started back on it's feet with a jack, the required pulling force will be much less. Also, use a restraint strap to keep it upright when it does get near the level position. I see tractors can keep going if you pull too fast and on a slope. This happens because as the C.G. goes over center, it will start accelerating in the oppose direction and the loaded tires may start to slide rather than stay put. AG tires are intended to slide rather than dig in when side loaded. This could (theoretically) prevent it from rolling onto the pulling vehicle if it gets away from you. A few Youtube videos on how NOT to do it !

BTW: I suggest you pull from the rear wheel. Loop a strap thru the rim space. The loader MOUNT might be the one that complains. If you do use the loader side frame, chain both of them together to share the load.

Pull down through the rear wheel . That's your high point to low point. As mentioned, a come al9ng should pull her back on her feet.

Glad that you are here to post your question. I'm sure that you had to change your shorts after that.

One TBN member's signature reads
"A serious accident is one which money can't fix." That could have been written for this.

A JD 4710 comes in at North of 2 tons, with loader.

Pulling it upright should take less than it would take to lift it. (angles, forces, physics, and math)

Anything you can do to "lift" while turning will be a good thing. Cut a ten foot log and notch the end for a cable ??
Multiple fixing points to the tractor will be a good thing.

Trees on the up hill side for anchors? Or will you roll it down hill? That seems like a major decision.
