Drew, I get my oil furnace serviced EVERY year, religiously. Guy always puts in a new nozzle and filter. I look after the blower filters and belt. He does the rest.

The valve looks like a basic gate valve.

Good Morning. 37 going to 76º to day. Another beautiful December day. Piddled around with some maintenance on the Kubota yesterday. Water separator cleaned.
Built some loader cylinder locks to make the job safe. Mowed the lawn - lol. No rain in the forecast for 10 days. Typical So Cal winter. This is why we live here.
Cooked up a big pot of Pork tenderloin and black beans yesterday. Slept like a rock.

I have some of those.
It is a mess, put a pan under it.

little family out front got blown around but once straightened, they resumed their cheery
waving at folks going by

while checking on basement fuel oil tank figured I'd better get another filter.
The heater was eleven years old when I got here and had never been cleaned.
First thing I did. So I'm guessing no one has paid much attention to this filter.
looks like top of valve is missing

That is a fire safe valve, with the knob screwed down like it is it is holding the valve open. If you unscrew it, it will allow the stem to lower and close the valve. The design is supposed to close during a fire.

I started doing my own when I discovered the service guy putting just any old nozzle on, making it foul up.
The place next to wife’s Dr is only a lab, now at another place for X-ray

Looks like a few inches in Vermont looking on the camera this morning !

Looks like it may be stopping in your area already.
We have about 4 inches of wet soggy stuff so far.

Your tank at the exit pipe doesn't look all that good. A little bubbly on the bottom. Maybe it is time for a new tank? And put it outside.
I changed mine at the ten year mark that was in the basement and now have one that will last (guaranteed for 25 years against rust) the rest of my lifetime.
