First cup of coffee is cooling. 65° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 84° with thunderstorm throughout the day. Get together went well. One of the visitors was a camera buff. We spent and lot of time wandering around my place taking pictures. Looks like today will be a conserve energy day.
Caught this little bird trying to put the twig inside bird house. It would not fit. Finally gave up and found a smaller twig.

David sorry to hear about Mike. May he RIP.

RNG, read this story yesterday about a previous California fire near you.

Randy, RV should be a good one. The V10 will use a lot of gas. But is very reliable in maintained properly. Got a place to store it under cover?

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

We have a carport coming in September or October, 60’ x 16’. We will store the coach in front and tractors in back. Rear will be semi enclosed with overhead door. Then the 24x12 small garage will be home to the El Camino when it comes back from the resto shop.

Good Morning!!!! 74F @ 6:45AM. Partly cloudy skies. High 104F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
The air's not too good outside this morning, but it's much better than yesterday. It did eventually clear out by late afternoon on Friday, so I opened up the garage and shared a margarita on the back porch with my bodyshop neighbor. Then remembered to close all the doors in the garage on my way in for the night, and the inside filter has been quiet ever since.

I'm of mixed mind about the electric cars, Drew. There's no doubt that Tesla can build a performance car that leaves most gas guzzlers in the dust, and it would be fun to drive one. But I don't believe for one second that they're better for the environment once you include the energy cost of mining and refining the materials for the batteries, and the fossil fuels burned to generate the power to charge the batteries. And I'm not buying the argument that we can build enough solar, wind, and wave energy farms to keep electric cars on the road, either. Same problem: the cost of producing that infrastructure is a high mortgage to pay, both dollar wise, and resource/CO2 wise.

I hope you have a successful gig tonight, Paul. You know you're going to forget to bring something; hope it's not your hearing protection.🤭 Did you get the two battery blower? Hang on tight when you hit that high setting! I'm curious to hear how long the batteries last in the string trimmer. I'm good for about two or three tanks of gas worth on the Stihl, maybe a couple of hours, and wonder how many sets of batteries that works out to.

I think I read that story last year, as people were recovering from the Bear/North Complex Fire, Ron. That was one of many started by a band of thunderstorms that ran from Monterey, through here, and then farther north. I ignored evacuation orders for about a week, during which the solar system and generator earned their keep because PG&E had turned off the electricity. What that cattleman failed to mention, probably because it was so obvious to him, is that the browsing cattle keep the brush down so that when fire comes, it stays on the forest floor and out of the trees. The fire cleans up the sticks, branches, and leaves on the ground, and the trees stay alive and green. Too many of our forests aren't managed that way, and after years of accumulation, the fuel loads are so high there's nothing left but ash when a fire goes through. And like this Dixie Fire, they're too big to put out, and the fire fighters stand by helplessly as hundreds of thousands of acres go up in smoke.

As far as the Dixie Fire goes, as of last night it had grown to 162,000 acres, with 18% containment, and over 4200 assigned to fight it. Most of what's burning is on the edges at this point, which spreads the firefighters even more thinly. Yesterday's heavy smoke kept air attack on the ground most of the day, and when they could get up, they were only flying on the flanks because of the heavy smoke at the head of the fire. More evacuations on the western edge of the fire, and on the eastern side as well. All places of much natural beauty, snowy peaks and beautiful green meadows, many high lakes, many campgrounds, including the one at Bucks Lake my friends enjoyed this past weekend. I wonder if they'll have the repairs done in time for us to use next year.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

that's a big motorhome Randy, should be very comfortable. I had a 27 foot version of the F53 chassis from Itasca, always wished I had got the 35 for the extra room, particularly in bathroom.
They are all slow, the V10 has to be revved up to make power and is fairly noisy but otherwise is pretty durable. 9mpg if you keep your foot in it.
Life in the slow lane isn't so bad at all. I bet the rv campsites are pretty booked up this summer and Fall. Rv industry boomed during Covid, now there is very little inventory out there.

Most of these rigs come with the upgraded suspension with Bilstein shocks.
Hope this rv brings great pleasure and lots of good memories Toppop.
Now (like me...) stay healthy so you can use it a lot.

79 now, 86 later. Big car show today down in Crisfield MD, our club is all hands on deck for this one. I’m wearing one of my Hawaiian shirts in case I get in the contest. I finished second 4 years ago. I’m not towing the trailer this year, so I can leave a little later. Show usually runs until around 8.

Ron, love the bird!

Drew, if the Vette is near perfect it probably is a $100 k car.

Have a good day.

Drew, if the Vette is near perfect it probably is a $100 k car.

thanks, I agree, though it's not perfect. Exterior is very very nice though.
Interior seems a little tired, maybe it's original.
Rebuilt engine, reasonably unmolested

potatoes all picked, nice assortment of Red Pontiac and Kennebec.
I'll take some potatoes with me this afternoon to picnic as house present for owners.
First I have to clean up and get all the garden dirt out of my nails. Something fun about digging
in the cool of the earth with bare hands.

The mower's battery did take a charge...but, boy...was it dead!!
I'd written in a post a few days ago that when my neighbor moved the mower in the garage, he hadn't set the foot pedal parking brake. I know there's at least one safety switch tied in with the parking brake...I assume leaving the brake pedal "unlocked" (for lack of a better term) resulted in a slow drain of the battery.

Was too wet to mow an hour or so ago...guess I'll give it another try now...

New awning is on the camper. Job isn’t done but that’s all for today.
Borrowing from a technique I use to lift sheets of plywood up a level, I propped 2x4s at each end and screwed on a catch to hold the awning
IMG_0813.JPG

Then with the help of my lovely assistant, unroll and lower the awning.
IMG_0816.JPG

Drilled rivets out of motor end, slide tubing out, well I discovered the cord is fastened at each end, so drilled rivets from spring end. Then decided I spring still wound, and decided to leave it in, so cut the cord on that end with razor knife.
Slide off tube, then slide old awning off the top track.
Then slide new awning on the top track. I taped over the end as suggested, but it still wanted to catch some. Fortunately the new awning was rolled so the top was on the outside, and could slide it on while still rolled up.
New awning hanging from top.
IMG_0820.JPG

At this point I had to take a break, the heat was getting to me. Sprayed all tracks with silicon to help things slide.
Then slid tube back on. One new rivet in the spring end, and the stem caught up in the rivet gun. Slide motor back in, hung on the lower 2x4 catch and hand wind the awning on tube. Lift to top catch and hand wind the awning again. New awning a little longer, so less room for the 2x4. Awning wound a little messed up, that that will work out later.
Got the ends back on the arms.
IMG_0818.JPG

Got the rivet gun unjambed and got 2 rivets in each end. I was wore out so stopped for the day. All’s left is put the 2 bolts back in, roll it out, put in set screws, roll it in and put set screws at the top.

Toppop interesting study in Australia the largest polluters there are electrical power plants, cars are number three. Sort of proves your point

Drew your brother should look at Aston Martins same motor as MB along with electronics really cool cars in my opinion. DB11 is sweet

70°F and another 1.4 inches rain. A shame we can’t redirect to the fire areas. Stay safe out there.

COVID D still surging out of control with another triple digit statewide day, 39 new cases on island. Makes me wonder how long before we start hearing about lawyers for a fully vaccinated victim suing the traceable unvaccinated source. Bound to happen and other than legitimate medical/religious exemption will eventually succeed. Stay tuned for the onslaught of TV ads.

Have to admit, yesterday’s news of Mike’s passing more a jolt. At our age such news concerning contemporaries somewhat normal, but not so much younger. Thanks for the comments.

Hope to stay better focused today, no planned distractions.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

77F (HI 78F) and mostly cloudy @ 13:00, headed up to a high of 85F. 15% chance of rain today, 58% chance tonight. Apparently we got 0.34" so far since midnight ... ground is still wet with some standing water on driveway.

Leaves on hawthorns have started to turn and fall, indicating we've reached the midpoint of summer.

Based on the size of the granules I was kind of doubting how much "weeding" the Weed-N-Feed was going to do, but I have seen some curling of weeds already. Be interesting to see what the fertilizer does as far as "popping" the front now that we've had some rain/

Yesterday was largely an energy conservation day.

Friend did stop by to pick up his pork chops and I did manage to get the hopper feeder refilled and the fish fed.

Also dug out all the electric fence parts up in the shop, just need to unscrew the fencer off the wall and bring it down to the house. Need to get over to the barn and see what we have in the way of t-posts, need 4 six footers.

Made the run to Menards last night and picked up order. They picked the wrong tees ... again (was supposed to be socket x socket x FPT) But it got even better: guy heads off to get the correct ones, takes forever to return and when he returns still has the wrong ones, just a different size. I had to follow him over (which about did me in) to make sure he got it right on his second attempt. Sure glad I checked the order before leaving ...

Also ran by TSC while I was down there and picked up some plastic 4' step-in fence posts and tensioners and a nice 1 1/4" Green Leaf 4 bolt full port ball valve with a long handle for the water buffalo, will replace the existing ball valve, which is very hard to turn.

Noticed that TSC had some pretty decent looking trees (fruit and ornamentals) around 6' to 8' tall for not unreasonable prices (around $30) Need to keep that in mind for when they put them on sale at the end of the season. Also check for bulbs.

First item on agenda for today is to go dig out some field top soil and finish filling in around neighbor's new building.

Compost/wood lot needs mowed, but may need to run out and get gas before I do that.

Also need to unload the van at some point.

Beyond that refill hopper feeder (it never lasts for more than a day at this point) and maybe haul down more dirt and continue working on pad on south side of pole barn.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe Saturday ... (y)
