good morning all
another nice summer day, sunny and highs in the mid 80's.
I'm headed to a picnic tonight for local school board and they sure timed the weather right.
But before that....today is potato day.

First I pull out all the almost dead plants, then I start digging. Well I hope to have some help from neighbor's kids, but
today is the day. I haven't watered that area in a few days to let the soil dry out.

Nice to see Utah and NM getting some rain, even if it's too much all at once.
David, sorry your neighbor and friend passed.

David sorry for the loss of long time good neighbor.

btw, my brother said first 80 grand takes the Corvette. Pretty sure it's worth six figures and it's a perfect
car to take to car shows. Anyone who knows a collector...
He really wants to get back into something like what Buppies mentioned, an AMG four door likely. 603hp should do...
He has owned a Shelby Cobra kit car and that is likely the only other car he owned that wore him out very quickly.
We are getting older and need something a little more accommodating and comfortable. But still make nice noises. Few folks
can use 500-600hp on the road safely so this is more a matter of what tunes you can play with your engine.
My brother drives an appliance to work, Lexus mid size suv that is both dull and perfect. Typical toyota, incredibly reliable.
So he really wants something fun, and since he is still working at our age, toys like this are still justifiable.
Harder to justify once retired and incomes are lower...

time to bake some cranberry orange muffins for picnic tonight and while they cool I'll go out and get my little
potato dig organized, including some metal chairs to sit on.
While I know there are red potatoes in there, haven't dug up any white potatoes yet, the fun (or dismay) of discovery

Good morning! 77˚F heading to the upper 90s - this is the norm temp for July. It's been below normal until now. No rain this week except at Mom's but with a few dry days there they are on their second cut of hay.

Drew it's always fun to dig potatoes and be amazed at how big and many there are. We have just used the last of our potatoes that were harvested 2 months ago.

Air quality will be bad today as the bulk of the African dust settles on Texas. You could really see the dust yesterday, the cloudless sky was a dull whitish color instead of a vivid blue.

Early garden day and a afternoon by the pool sounds like a good Saturday. Hot dusty days like today I do not miss mowing.

Travis County (one to the SW) has officially gone to covid phase 4 and all, even vaccinated are "recommended" to wear mask. I'll only put my mask on if there is a sign on a store door requiring it, so far have not seen one.

Roy do you still require the second shot or did you get J&J.
David sorry for the loss of your neighbor.
Ron there is a lesson to be learned by the too big stick bird. Something about if it doesn't fit build a bigger house.:giggle:
RNG those are some really fantastic pics of the large fires.

67 and mostly cloudy, going to 85...last day under the 90s for a while.

Randy, that sounds like a dandy RV...saw one that is probably like it yesterday. Sounds like you got a good deal...savings will buy a lot of gas, although I saw a couple of stations yesterday where it has slipped up to $3.

Sodamo, sorry you lost a good friend.

Mostly, sounds like a nice Costco run yesterday.

Thomas, sounds like quite a fright...we had lightning hit a tree 60 feet from the house several years ago and I thought a bomb had been dropped.

BEF, blackberries sound good...the wild ones did well here this year. We went up to Big Meadows Lodge yesterday to have lunch out on the deck...the people next to us were having big servings of blackberry ice cream instead of lunch...they told us they live at the bottom of the mountain off US 33 and just drive up there occasionally to get ice cream and take in the view. It was cool...69F and and a north breeze at 2pm when we ate. Turk's cap lillies and other wildflowers everywhere. At the entrance station, emergency vehicles had put out a fire on a truck...18 wheeler pulling a load of saran-wrapped pallets of firewood up the mountain for the campgrounds...the trailer and firewood was mostly okay, but all that was left of the tractor was the heavy metal parts...tires and all interior completely gone...no roof, no hood...maybe they had been pulled off. It was all cleared when we went back by on the way home.

daugen said, "We are getting older and need something a little more accommodating and comfortable. But still make nice noises."

Then you ain't nearly as old as I am. I went through those early stages with "glass pack mufflers" and such. But now, I prefer a car that's so quiet you have to look at the tachometer to tell if the engine's running.:D:D

And now in Texas we are to the time of year that I hate. We had some extra rain this Spring and early Summer, so I've been having to mow the yard every 5 days instead of once a week, but now the foreseeable weather forecast is for nothing but a dry 99 to 101 degrees every day.:rolleyes:

Good morning. My old fergie had to come out of the shed to get at some other machinery. Ran for a few hundred yards, then engine died. First time out in almost 2 years, a slow diesel leak had left the tank empty. It was going to a new home just before Covid kicked off, but now they don't have space after moving house, so I will ask around to see who else may want it. I would have kept it forever, except my left knee complains far too much nowadays whenever I try to drive anything with a manual clutch.

Eric how old is the 2 part filler
Bought the wood filler only a couple of weeks ago. Much cooler today, will try again this afternoon using less hardener too as RNG suggested.

David, sorry to hear your friend Mike passed away.

Good Morning
It’s 61 and going up 20 degrees with clear skies and low humidity today. Just a perfect day to be outside.

Yesterday was pretty much the same. It was interesting to dig out all the gear required for tonight’s show. It’s amazing how much gets put in front of or top of things that haven’t moved for a year. Also making sure that cases have what they are supposed to have in them. But it’s all done and packed up.

I made a trip to Home Depot for some hardware, and came back with a Makita LXT cordless string trimmer and leaf blower. My wife doesn’t even shake her head any more. I really am impressed with how well the battery tools work, and the batteries have about the same endurance as me. I have plenty of batteries, so i can always swap them out, but it’s been rare to not make it through the task at hand.

Today, I’ll put a little time on the new string trimmer, clean up some, and then go set up for this evening’s show with my band mates.

Is that a split rear window?
same style coupe but no Roy, split window was only first year, 1963.
Split window coupe with nice running 327 likely even more valuable.
Though I think there will always be the appeal of a big block and a manual trans.

Township posted rates of $1 an hour to use EV charging station they just installed across the road.
I don't know its charge rate. Every time I drive locally I pass a Tesla, that's how common they are here.
And now Tesla said yesterday they are opening up their entire Teslacharger system nationwide to other brands.
They must figure they can make good money on selling electricity.

My garage doesn't have 240V Bird or I'd seriously consider it, for all the short drives I make.
But to dig another line with all the permits required is just a lot of money.
But I guess it is the future. And while I'm still buying green bananas, not sure I want to invest in something with a 20
year payout at my age.

Yep...quite aware of the split window 'Vettes worth...

Never was a big fan of Corvettes. Back in the day, I was more into European sports cars. But, a 'Vette sure could sound nice with the V8 rumble...

Thanks, hope your work day is productive.

Was able to get a hotel room for tonight. Last night when I checked none in town available, thought I was gonna have to drive back home.

Wngsprd, sounds like nice time at big meadows. The tractor had detached from the trailer on fire I saw yesterday. It was still there on way home.

Good morning all, and so sorry to hear about all the fires and super hot weather. Fortunately for us, we have dodged all that up here 2 1/2 hours north of Toronto. Had some good rain, which is helped everything to grow super green and lush.

We did, however, get one thunderstorm the generated a tornado that touched down in Barry Ontario, damaging a couple hundred homes and sending people to hospital, all of whom survived. Pretty scary, because my father-in-law and sister-in-law and brother-in-law all live in Barry, and they were not far at all from where the tornado touched down.

Scary story about that lightning that struck a mere 100 yards away. We did have a streak here about the same distance away, which hit a power pole. Damaged 23 neighbors generators, and funnily enough a lower power went out, I learned later that it was just because the main breaker tripped. And amazingly, had no damage whatsoever except for the surge protector which did it’s job and sacrificed itself. (Just have to put a new one in.). But it sure scared the heck out of the dog! He does not like thunder at all, and this was a real doozy!

Meanwhile, we just have to get some firewood undercover because of the rain that is coming today, and other than that do various indoor chores. The in-laws are coming soon for several days, so there will be a big scurry to clean the place up.

Have a great weekend everyone!

James
