43°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 68° today. No rain in the forecast here until Saturday (naturally).

We had plenty of rain over the weekend, raining on and off most of the day Saturday and into Sunday morning. Sunday was a nice sunny day, but very windy all day with sustained winds around 20-25mph. That kind of prevented us from doing much outside. We did get a new expansion of the flower bed around the flag pole marked, but that was pretty much it.

On my way out to feed the chickens Saturday morning, I saw a groundhog walking in front of the barn. He stopped and looked right at me, and let me get within about 25 feet before darting off under the door. First one I've seen out there since we put the radio in the barn a couple years ago.

Went to Lowe's Sunday morning to pick up some Weed-n-Feed for the front lawn. When I got it home and unloaded it from the car, one of the bags had a hole in it and leaked all over the hatchback area. I needed to vacuum my car interior anyway, but man, does that stuff stink.

Noticed yesterday that there is a digital display on the new dishwasher that shows the time remaining in the cycle. When started, it showed 3:08. Does it really take this thing over three hours to wash the dishes?! How is that "energy efficient?" After reading through the (very poor) literature that came with it, it appears that they claim the slower cycle time uses less electricity and water. Uh, OK. Doesn't seem logical to me, but whatever. As long as it's not dumping water out like Drew's did, I guess I'll let it do it's thing.

The product I haul is made from tar, it is called High Float (how it is made is beyond my pay grade) and is sprayed on gravel roads, covered with gravel and rolled and packed. It is real dusty for about two weeks and after a good rain the dust is gone and you have a hard topped road that is way cheaper than a hot mix asphalt road. These roads will stand up to medium traffic including trucks as long as you don't try turning tight 'U' turns on it.

We call that "oil and chip" around here, and that's what our country roads are. It is pretty durable stuff, as you say, so long as there's not terribly heavy traffic.

Our country roads here are surfaced that way, too, Bill. Same with the county roads in Ohio where I was brought up. Back there we called them Macadam, out here people say chip seal. I just looked up Macadam, and learned it was invented by a Mr. MacAdam, and was originally all stone and stone dust. Tar was added as a binder only after traffic speeds rose high enough to pull the stone dust out of the surface and cause those billowing clouds, which incidently also breaks down the road surface.

Quite a while back I asked a pavement contractor about using the modern Macadam for my "driveway", but he said it wouldn't hold up on the steep grade, but that asphalt would. I don't want to deal with resealing asphalt, and unless I win the lottery, concrete is too expensive, so it stays gravel, which is the original Macadam, made from what the locals call three-quarter-minus, crushed rock with lots of stone dust.

Morning, been raining since Sat. night. Had a little over 1".
Did some more planting and cleanup, but still have the two largest areas to go.
Some big branches hanging, ordered a Milwaukee M18 pole saw and we will see how that does.
Comes with a trimmer attachment too, if that works well, I will switch my handlebar FS110 to full brush cutter and retire my over 20 year old, currently patched up, heavy, brush cutter.

Got some more plants Sat. Wife wanted a White Pine Louie (golden pine), will need to figure out where it goes as I think it will be too large for where she thought it would fit.

Planted a Ginko tree where my old cherry had fallen over last year.

Still have not finished picking up sticks, two fields and the driveway to go. Should be enough to fill my cart many times over.

Need to fill in ruts from delivery people making wide turns all winter.

Ordered new torsion bar for the Simplicity, but could not find the plate that is mounts to in front of the tranny. Maybe some welding to do, and I have no welding kit or space to store it, or wife to allow it. Would be easy to do with torsion bar removed and tractor lifted, maybe see if a neighbor has anything I can borrow and burn myself with

Picked up steaks at a local farm and got to watch the cows do nothing as always

Randy - sorry to hear truck a no go-does look great, but it's good you know that this would be a big project
Mostly - any update on your wife's condition?
Paul - Coyote not in the tower directing traffic?
Drew- dishwasher flood...bad solenoid. Hope not too much damage, took us a while to find a dishwasher with heat dry. Non-heat dry just seems to reflect badly in ratings, though does use a lot less energy.

Have Daffodils blooming everywhere around the grounds, new ones look like they will open soon.
Here the light is so different from forest to open areas, the blooms take weeks from start to finish for the different areas. All tulips are gone, deer are very good at that :-(

52F and raining @ 11:30, showers due to end around 16:00, high of around 59F for the day. Better forecast tomorrow: 68F for the high and mostly sunny. High temps will remain seasonable for the rest of the Ten Day (low 60's)

Got tied up with housecleaning and laundry yesterday so nothing more done with the barn owl box, beyond vacuuming it off.

Friend possibly coming over later today to pick up a couple 5 gallon buckets of composted soil (or as he calls it "black gold" ... lol) for his new grapevines. We'll send him home with some sheetcake for him and his wife as well.

Other than that, not much on agenda ... probably get back to the barn owl box later and work on paperwork organizing.

The rain is certainly helping to green things up here:

Kinda surprising that the lawn looks as good as it does, given the amount of leaves still on it.

With the warm weather we had earlier, it seems like things ought to be further along, as far as leafing out and blooming.

58°F and .18 inches rain. A bit on the chilly side, but looks like some sunshine ahead.

Tommy made excellent chili as usual. Nice visit to get caught up even though COVID sand vaccinations may have dominated. Sister Kathleen, retired pharmacist, is a volunteer shot giver at her CVS in New York. Said too often it was 10-12 hour days often made longer as once a vial is opened they find volunteers so not to waste.

Zoom Happy Hour this afternoon.

57 and cloudy, forecast was for 65, now saying 59.

Yesterday I ended up going up to Seaford DE to pick up a nice professional PA system donated to our club by the former owners of the local Harley Davidson stores. He called me Saturday and made the offer, very nice equipment.

Went to lunch with my daughter today.
Farmers are spreading chicken manure on the field across the road, thankfully the wind is east and the field is west. They also are turning it under right away so there won’t be much odor, especially if it rains soon.

Got more errands to run, have a great day.

Kept forgetting to report that the mail box alarm has been working every day, after missing the very first one, it has not missed since. I never had to reposition the sender.
Batteries at 95%, it started at 97%. It sends me an email and txt when the mailbox is opened. Unless my internet is down, I get the notice nearly instantly, with the vehicle still sitting at the box.
