LS
August is usually our wettest month, as of yesterday, it is going for the record to be the driest in decades.
Also breaking records here 3rd dries year since early 1900's

Thomas, I can see why the critters enjoy your place, quite serene!
Thanks...it's our little sanctuary for the wildlife as Mrs. would say.

Indeed been learning process this year with Boo,over the night Boo took my old welding pants put them against wishing well...think he try to tell me something. :confused3:

75F and partly cloudy @ 11:00, high temp predicted to hit 86F, 0% chance of precipitation. We are currently under a Low Air Quality Alert.

Squirrel is currently raiding berries on dogwood tree ... pretty funny to watch.

Got bird feeders filled yesterday, hosta clumps awaiting transplanting watered, water buffalo filled and moved over to planting area, pull down large broken limb (12'+) that was hanging over area where I was going to be planting and get it put on the burn pile. Also raked up leaves and debris to clear the area for planting.

More sections of auger rack got BLO treatment.

Planted 23 hosta sets, used screened compost to form little catch basins to retain water/runoff, and got all of them watered (several times) Still working on 1st bucket though ... hopefully will finish it and 2nd bucket today.

First item on agenda for today is to get the area around catch basin watered for newly sown grass, then probably do some clean up of dirt on lawn from the hosta excavating.

After that more planting ... at least until the batteries for the cordless drill run out ...

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

I love my 4' fiberglass ladder, Drew. So light and easy to move. But it's taken forever for the hinges to loosen up, and the temptation to stand on the top is sometimes overwhelming. Is yours green, too? green or blue, I forget...yes, stiff hinges, and I won't even stand on the next step down, my legs were a little wobbly for that.

Drew, best to not start chassis engine. Unless you are going to drive it. Is that because it won't get hot enough? Not charge the battery adequately?
solar panels on roof charge house batteries, not sure if engine battery gets any help, probably not. At least there's a jumper switch on dash that will connect house batteries to engine if the engine one is dead. But my battery charger disappeared with everything else...once I get to PA, will get another small smart charger.

I would not want to be a dairy farmer right now. We've all read where milk producers are dumping milk because they can't sell it, prices too low.
Today I bought a dozen eggs. 69 cents for a dozen extra large, 79 cents for 18 eggs. No way they make any money at those prices...
Such good protein, should be used and looks like there needs to be some price support here.

Lot of rain to West of here, looks like it's dumping on S/W Virginia now. I expect it to start raining later today and continue into tomorrow. i hear the campground mower going, grass here is ten inches tall, it got away from them. Need to look out and see if owner is running mower, hope it is which means his CT scan went well this morning. No, it was owner's father.

Emission Control System needs to be run at high enough RPMs in order to regenerate. Take it for a ride or let it set.
Transmission will no get hot enough.
Your generator needs to be run monthly to keep generator part of it operating properly.

Exhaust is just full of water vapor, and if the exhaust piping isn't allowed to get hot enough, that water vapor will cause it to rust. Same with anywhere else in the engine. Also, most engine wear is caused in the first few minutes after startup, partly due to low oil pressure. So don't start the engine unless you run it long enough to reach full operating temperature. That's a long time at idle.

I'm still really happy with my Battery Saver. I think I have five of 'em now...

I've forgotten all the details, but when I was commander of police communications in the Dallas city hall, down in the basement, we had two generators. They were just alike, V-12 diesels. And the power was shut off in the building about 6 a.m. every Sunday morning. In other words, when there was almost no one in the building except the police and fire communications people. When the power was shut off, those big generators came on and ran for one hour. So instead of monthly, they were checked weekly. If I remember right, they were Cummins Onan generators.

David/MFW, try calling your local garage and ask them if they know of any good used 16 foot trailers and/or where they would recommend
you buy one: Ladysmith Tire & Auto - expert auto repair - Ruther Glen, VA 22546
Richmond CraigsList has a few
richmond, VA for sale "trailer" - craigslist

there are many, many brands out there, some national, some local, hard to recommend a brand name
look for a decent paint job and ask if they put a primer coat on first

Thanks Drew! I know those guys very well actually.

Waiting for my pharmacy to get the high dose flu shots in, said it might be a week. I made spaghetti sauce in the off brand insta pot, used the grill function to brown the meat, then dumped everything in, including a half jar of chunky salsa, took ten minutes and tasted like it cooked for hours.

Have y’all noticed that as we get older people treat us differently? When we were younger if we screwed up we got an eye roll and a snicker, now we get a pitiful look and an ‘aww let me help you’. But we do get more hugs from the young ladies, who assume we are harmless. We get discounts, and specials, we also get more eye testing, and apparently we all need hearing aids.

61 going to mid eighties, I did some more spraying after rehab this morning, humidity is a little higher, going into the nineties this weekend for several days.

Have a great day.

thanks Ron and RNG. I have the diesel fuel dosed with PowerService additive, so it's not going bad, but it's all that condensation in this very humid climate I worry about.
In six weeks it will get a nice long run up to PA and this will be a moot point. Maybe I'll invest in that battery charger earlier vs later.
Generator always run under load and at least once per month.

Duh, my MIL has a 16 ft car trailer I think she will be selling. Has metal bottom. It痴 in Harrisonburg VA.

My DK50, loaded rears, and an attachment are like 7000-7,700 LBS, will it haul that???

MFW - you’ve never done a remodel??? Well welcome to an exciting adventure.

I expect you are 10000% correct David!

(MFW) Put your sunglasses on, the future is bright!

Kyle, I HOPE you are correct!!!

“David(Moss) As you pack consider whether or not you need it or you might need it. We got rid of a lot of stuff prior to actual packing.”

Or just get Jim to help you move!

Randy, That is a FABULOUS idea. I hope Jim is avaialble...

Be well all,
David

Yep, when I first asked our Walmart pharmacy (the 10th of this month), the pharmacist said they had the lower dose, and expected the high dose during that week. Sure enough, one week later we got the shots on the 17th. Of course Medicare pays for them. But early this morning, I happened to notice 3 signs at the local Albertson's grocery store saying "Free Flu Shots." I was just driving by before they opened, so I don't know whether that's for everyone, or if they're just talking about those of us who don't have to pay because some kind of insurance pays.

That’s the case most times Bird, the fine print usually mentions insurance/Medicare.

Got our senior dose flu shots this morning. Seems we were the first at our store under this new system. When I checked for availability online last night it asked if I wanted to make appointment. Didn’t know but being curious I clicked. Answered same questions as on the click board paperwork and provided contact info. Can add up to 3 people so I added Sophie, asking same questions for her. Appointment availability was 20 min apart so I picked this morning. They emailed confirmation. Got there a few minutes early to check in and the tech started assembling the clipboard do I told her I had already done it online. She left and when she came back handed me the disclosure sheet then did the covid checks. I did ask that it was the high dosage senior shot.
Pharmacist told me we were the first to use the system. In the past we would just wander in and ask - hit and miss at best.

Good evening all. 65F for the star, clear, calm. Light wind today, clear sky, high temp was 91F. Last of the low 90's, all mid 90's in the ten day, might get rain tonight, best chance in the ten day. Walk with wife to start day, then bike ride, then pick up fishing rods. New fly rod worked really well with the fly line on Dad's old reel, had real trouble with line twist on the 4 lb test line on the new crappie rod, hope to fish with them soon. Did get nap in.
Covid update: Cooke 284 confirmed cases, 7 active cases, Montague 104 confirmed cases, 18 active cases, Grayson 1353 confirmed cases,115 active cases.
Dennis hope you start getting caught up at work, understand about wanting to see your dad, you should go.
Roy how long will audit take. Our ts audits (auto version of ISO 9000) would take 2 to 2 1/2 days.
Eric would not put it past them to eat corn. Almost all wildlife will try to eat corn.
Drew good work on the awning, I remember someone advertising a can opener like that a few yeas ago.
Luther I would try rain dance here, but rain is rare in North Texas on a good year.
Ron hope you don't get too hot fixing siding.cool pic, suprised hummers not dive bombing him. Fishing is spotty this time of year, so hot fish don't feed well.
Billy good to hear you are catching up on mowing, and Coco gaining weight. Hope she continues to improve.
Rick hope most of Texas gets rain off the storms pic of the brake fix, please, Ladder is looking sharp
Don hope you get some rain. Not sure wine helps the effectivness of dance
RNG congrats on the parts find, 200,000 acres is a lot of land :(
Ted does your neighbor have a blue tractor or is the blue for your tractor? enjoy making your shelves
Thomas sorry you are so dry also. Think Boo wants a working well?
RS hope you get your stuff planted and watered.
Drew, short trips are hard because engine/exhaust don't get hot enough, an idleing deisel engine would be worse.
Randy actually I quite getting the senior discount without asking.
prayers for all, especially Drew/move, Jay/Peg, Kyle's daughter, Mike, David(moss)/move and Country
stay safe and healthy you all.
