August is usually our wettest month, as of yesterday, it is going for the record to be the driest in decades.
Also breaking records here 3rd dries year since early 1900's

Thomas, I can see why the critters enjoy your place, quite serene!
Thanks...it's our little sanctuary for the wildlife as Mrs. would say.

75F and partly cloudy @ 11:00, high temp predicted to hit 86F, 0% chance of precipitation. We are currently under a Low Air Quality Alert.

Squirrel is currently raiding berries on dogwood tree ... pretty funny to watch.

Got bird feeders filled yesterday, hosta clumps awaiting transplanting watered, water buffalo filled and moved over to planting area, pull down large broken limb (12'+) that was hanging over area where I was going to be planting and get it put on the burn pile. Also raked up leaves and debris to clear the area for planting.

More sections of auger rack got BLO treatment.

Planted 23 hosta sets, used screened compost to form little catch basins to retain water/runoff, and got all of them watered (several times) Still working on 1st bucket though ... hopefully will finish it and 2nd bucket today.

First item on agenda for today is to get the area around catch basin watered for newly sown grass, then probably do some clean up of dirt on lawn from the hosta excavating.

After that more planting ... at least until the batteries for the cordless drill run out ...

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

I love my 4' fiberglass ladder, Drew. So light and easy to move. But it's taken forever for the hinges to loosen up, and the temptation to stand on the top is sometimes overwhelming. Is yours green, too? green or blue, I forget...yes, stiff hinges, and I won't even stand on the next step down, my legs were a little wobbly for that.

Drew, best to not start chassis engine. Unless you are going to drive it. Is that because it won't get hot enough? Not charge the battery adequately?
solar panels on roof charge house batteries, not sure if engine battery gets any help, probably not. At least there's a jumper switch on dash that will connect house batteries to engine if the engine one is dead. But my battery charger disappeared with everything else...once I get to PA, will get another small smart charger.

I would not want to be a dairy farmer right now. We've all read where milk producers are dumping milk because they can't sell it, prices too low.
Today I bought a dozen eggs. 69 cents for a dozen extra large, 79 cents for 18 eggs. No way they make any money at those prices...
Such good protein, should be used and looks like there needs to be some price support here.

Lot of rain to West of here, looks like it's dumping on S/W Virginia now. I expect it to start raining later today and continue into tomorrow. i hear the campground mower going, grass here is ten inches tall, it got away from them. Need to look out and see if owner is running mower, hope it is which means his CT scan went well this morning. No, it was owner's father.

Emission Control System needs to be run at high enough RPMs in order to regenerate. Take it for a ride or let it set.
Transmission will no get hot enough.
Your generator needs to be run monthly to keep generator part of it operating properly.

Exhaust is just full of water vapor, and if the exhaust piping isn't allowed to get hot enough, that water vapor will cause it to rust. Same with anywhere else in the engine. Also, most engine wear is caused in the first few minutes after startup, partly due to low oil pressure. So don't start the engine unless you run it long enough to reach full operating temperature. That's a long time at idle.

I'm still really happy with my Battery Saver. I think I have five of 'em now...

I've forgotten all the details, but when I was commander of police communications in the Dallas city hall, down in the basement, we had two generators. They were just alike, V-12 diesels. And the power was shut off in the building about 6 a.m. every Sunday morning. In other words, when there was almost no one in the building except the police and fire communications people. When the power was shut off, those big generators came on and ran for one hour. So instead of monthly, they were checked weekly. If I remember right, they were Cummins Onan generators.

David/MFW, try calling your local garage and ask them if they know of any good used 16 foot trailers and/or where they would recommend
you buy one: Ladysmith Tire & Auto - expert auto repair - Ruther Glen, VA 22546
Richmond CraigsList has a few
richmond, VA for sale "trailer" - craigslist

there are many, many brands out there, some national, some local, hard to recommend a brand name
look for a decent paint job and ask if they put a primer coat on first

Thanks Drew! I know those guys very well actually.
David
