Good morning!!!!

The low this morning was 30*, it was in the low 40's yesterday. We got a light dusting of snow overnight, it looks like a inch or two. A chance of more snow showers this morning with a high in the mid 30's. The wind has been blowing 15-30 mph for the last week. I don't mind the snow but the wind is getting to be a pain.

Not much planned for today, move a little snow and clean up the reloading stuff. This time I will put it altogether so I can find it next time.

Hope everyone gets to feeling better.
CWB.

Good morning all! Spent the last 2 hours getting caught back up. All our those with the flu, get well soon! For those caring for the flu sufferers, watch them closely! Apparently this "bad" strain starts to stabilize and people seem to be getting better, then suddenly develope shortness of breath, spike in fever, then BAM! They crash hard. Make sure plenty of fluids!

Didn't have any 'bad' calls this past tour, just some really sick people. We were really busy, got off late all 3 days(ended up being 15 hour shifts). Slept in yesterday to recuperate. Had 1 call when an elderly man at the pharmacy went into cardiac arrest just as we got there, he gave me his name and down he went. Had a great save, partner started CPR, I put the monitor on him, shocked him, and got pulses back! Got to the ED and he was attempting to talk to us. This is what my job is all about, makes it all worthwhile.

Have to go get my annual cardiac stress test today for my DOT certification. Legs are gonna be sore this afternoon. Have to go grocery shopping afterwards, local grocery has brisket on sale for $1.77 lb, want to stock up w/about 40 lbs. They have 'limit 2' so have to go to a few stores. I'll grind some up and mix it w/ 80/20 ground beef... Makes great burgers, meatloaf, and meatballs. Darn, now I'm hungry.

Toppop... Nice tractor! Good things DO come to those who wait! Had a 234 when I was back east years ago. Great working tractor.
Kyle... Hope your daughter gets well soon, watch her closely.

Prayers out to all those needing them!

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 7:00AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 71F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.

Still no rain in the 10 day forecast. But I sure like the weather we're havin' now.

Hope your little girl is feeling better, Kyle, and your family recovers quickly. Same for you and your families, Bird and Ed. If more people got the flu shot every year fewer would get sick and the chances of catching it would be reduced. When people get sick and they've had the shot, it's because the strain they caught wasn't covered. But they probably would have caught it from a covered strain if they didn't get the shot, so it's a wash for them. But they wouldn't have had the chance to pass on the strain that was covered because they didn't catch it because of the shot, so the opportunities for someone to pass the flu on to someone else are reduced. That's the part the people miss about stopping an epidemic.

Gosh, I go away for a day and a half and Drew sells his trailer to the first buyer, Randy finally lands a tractor, and Don handles that stump like a pro. But think about all the popcorn I saved!

I'm not a big football fan, and have been joining a group of like minded folks at a little campground down in the Sacramento River Delta for many years to camp on Superbowl weekend. This year was no exception, and the weather was pretty much perfect. There are levies built on both sides of the Sacramento starting about 50 miles south of here, and there are roads built on top of the levees. Since the river winds as it makes its way to the San Francisco Bay, those roads are lightly travelled and are very nice riding on a motorcycle. That's how I got to our little campout, and it was so much fun that's also how I got home. The ferry boat to Ryer Island was running that weekend, and it was fun talking to other people while waiting for it to arrive. Then on the way back, I stopped to watch a large ship in the navigation channel running into the Port of Sacramento. It was right out in the middle of a big farm field, a most unusual site!

There are places where the road leaves the levee for one reason or another, then has to climb back up to the top, usually about forty feet above the surrounding valley. As I approached one of those places where the road left the levee, a driver coming the other way somehow managed to get his car sideways skidding across the centerline as he crested the rise back onto the levee. He was obviously going too fast for conditions, and just barely managed to regain control and stay out of the river. This happened about 400' ahead of me, and had I have been there 5 seconds sooner or him 5 seconds later, I'd have not been here to tell you all about it, as we wouldn't have seen each other until just before the moment of impact. I guess Saturday just wasn't my day, or his and his passenger's, either.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start!

My thoughts on the flu shot.. Solely IMO... Every year, my employer makes it mandatory for us to get a flu shot or sign a release. Every time I got the shot (3years in a row), I became very sick and also the family within a couple weeks. The last 2 years I did not get the shot, no one in the house got sick nor did I. My daughter ( who is a nurse practitioner) has had the same experience as I did and has not had the shot for the past 2 years. She does not give it to her 3 kids either. No colds, flu, or general illnesses occurred.
Could be playing with fire....
I do believe that those with a weakened immune system, the elderly (not sayin' you guys are old), and those with other co-morbidities should have the vaccination. Good hygiene and frequent hand washing is very important.
Everyone has to make their own decision about the flu shot. I'm sure I opened up a big Pandora's box now.

14 here, but at least it stopped snowing. Need to clear the property, then going to clear the shop up. Got a late start today, slept in a bit. Felt pretty good :) .
Did get some bad news this morning, a friend of ours was just diagnosed with bone cancer. What is scary is that her husband died about 10 year ago from bone cancer. Neither ever smoked, or had any risk factors that I know of. He was a electrician, delt with pbb's in transformers, but she never did? She was in a care center, and she got dropped! broke her femur. She is now in a different center. We will visit her today.

Thank you very much Sir!
What year is your vanagon? I am an 'air cooled VW' fan.. Restored a '69 bug and have a '71 waiting for restoration.

Irv, sorry about your friend. LS, you get an attaboy on that one.

Lot of hazards out there, and here's one for Toppop. Maybe he should wear his logsplitting helmet
all the time. Friend of mine sent this article to me today.

I've been planting away. Hope to head outside in a little while, not very warm yet.

I'm sure I opened up a big Pandora's box now.

Maybe there's something about the way your body interacts with the vaccine that predisposes you to catching the next flu virus that comes along. Heaven knows, in your profession you are exposed far more frequently than most of us, so you probably come into contact to everything that's going around. While the vaccine is made from live flu virus, there is no live virus in the shot, and you can't catch the flu from the shot. Since the flu is contagious for some time before any symptoms appear, and being close to many people in your regular course of work, thank goodness your countermeasures are working so well! This year will be a good test of both them and you're theory. It would be interesting to see if there are any statistics out there about the rate at which flu is contracted by vaccinated vs. unvaccinated people in the medical profession.

I don't know about Pandora's Box, Ted, but in my experience, this group is pretty good at discussing controversial subjects in constructive ways without ruffling up a lot of feathers. Then there are those professional feather rufflers, but I guess that's what the IGNORE feature is for.

Good one, Drew! The article comments on how rare it it for a hunter to be hurt by a falling goose. Maybe that's because most hunters pay attention to what they're doing, and duck? Or perhaps they goose the ones that aren't so they aren't struck either?

Back from stress test. Tried to do it on tread mill. Could not get to needed heart rate after 10 minutes. Ended up with chemical stress test. Either I exercise to much or the beta blocker is doing its job. I’m going back to sleep.

All I have to say is WOW! Can you come to my place and do the drive? I don't even need the direction star. I'll buy all the steak you can eat!

Drive looks than better picture. When Don has company visit. They park on grass near where stump came down. They are afraid to damage it.

"and being close to many people in your regular course of work, thank goodness your countermeasures are working so well"

I Think being exposed to so many different pathogens on a frequent basis actually helps to build my immune system. Little at a time and build resistance. We have also discussed if anyone has been keeping track of the statistics between those who had the vaccine and got the flu vs not getting it. Seems that somebody somewhere has done this study... Why haven't we heard either way... They just say "get it"

Thanks everyone, wife said this morning she wants to check the place- sometime, but not now. Don't know what happened but thankful. Prayers all around. Ed

I've never had a flu shot. I'm 51. Occasionally I get the flu, but most years not. Been probably 10 years since I have contracted it. I've spent the last 20 years in industries where exposure to certain elements or chemicals promoted the habit of frequent hand washing, be it lead from electronics solder or organ pipes, or the dirty, oily rust inhibitors on steel tubing. I just wash my hands a lot. I'm sure that doesn't hurt with disease prevention.

As for the Pandora's Box thing, this group is definitely better than most on the internet at being civil in pretty much all conversations, regardless of the topic. It's one of the major reasons, as I've noted before, that this thread has become my favorite place on the internet.

Checking in from Fort Lauderdale International Airport...... Flight delayed.

You guys are giving me a lot of reading material to digest. This is one of the few mature and mutually respectful threads that I've found on the internet.

A lot of sick people in this cauldren of pathogens. One guy was so sick in the public bathroom in one concourse that I deceided to go to another concourse and hopefully a "healthier" facility.

With my luck he'll be sitting next to me on the plane.

My + thoughts, prayers, and wishes for all.

I am more OCD than normal with my hand washing and sanitizing.

My late wife got the CDC report every day this time of year or if there was any kind of outbreak. I’ve also seen the stats on shot vs not. In a normal year those getting the shot are 50% -75%
less likely to get flu, but what most people miss is that for every person that is vaccinated 10-15 less cases of flu will occur due to breaking the chain of transmission. As for the shot, it is absolutely impossible to catch the flu from the shot, the nasal spray was weakened live virus and caused many cases of flu, that’s why they stopped using it. Some people have a reaction to the shot or anything that aroused the immune system and can react with aches and fever for a day or two, happens to me about every 5 years or so.

Bought this can today and live it! It won’t spill, has an easy to use start button and automatically stops when full. Best of all is it pours fast like the old cans. If you have a modern no spill can you can buy the nozzle unit for $10, can wasn’t cheap at $34.

I've got two of the diesel cans, both 5 gallons...and two of the gasoline cans (one 5 gallons, one 2.5 gallons). These are great fuel cans!
