Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 7:00AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 71F. Winds NNW at 5 to 10 mph.
Still no rain in the 10 day forecast. But I sure like the weather we're havin' now.
Hope your little girl is feeling better, Kyle, and your family recovers quickly. Same for you and your families, Bird and Ed. If more people got the flu shot every year fewer would get sick and the chances of catching it would be reduced. When people get sick and they've had the shot, it's because the strain they caught wasn't covered. But they probably would have caught it from a covered strain if they didn't get the shot, so it's a wash for them. But they wouldn't have had the chance to pass on the strain that was covered because they didn't catch it because of the shot, so the opportunities for someone to pass the flu on to someone else are reduced. That's the part the people miss about stopping an epidemic.
Gosh, I go away for a day and a half and Drew sells his trailer to the first buyer, Randy finally lands a tractor, and Don handles that stump like a pro. But think about all the popcorn I saved!
I'm not a big football fan, and have been joining a group of like minded folks at a little campground down in the Sacramento River Delta for many years to camp on Superbowl weekend. This year was no exception, and the weather was pretty much perfect. There are levies built on both sides of the Sacramento starting about 50 miles south of here, and there are roads built on top of the levees. Since the river winds as it makes its way to the San Francisco Bay, those roads are lightly travelled and are very nice riding on a motorcycle. That's how I got to our little campout, and it was so much fun that's also how I got home. The ferry boat to Ryer Island was running that weekend, and it was fun talking to other people while waiting for it to arrive. Then on the way back, I stopped to watch a large ship in the navigation channel running into the Port of Sacramento. It was right out in the middle of a big farm field, a most unusual site!
There are places where the road leaves the levee for one reason or another, then has to climb back up to the top, usually about forty feet above the surrounding valley. As I approached one of those places where the road left the levee, a driver coming the other way somehow managed to get his car sideways skidding across the centerline as he crested the rise back onto the levee. He was obviously going too fast for conditions, and just barely managed to regain control and stay out of the river. This happened about 400' ahead of me, and had I have been there 5 seconds sooner or him 5 seconds later, I'd have not been here to tell you all about it, as we wouldn't have seen each other until just before the moment of impact. I guess Saturday just wasn't my day, or his and his passenger's, either.
Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start!
