Our last bridge into Hilo is called the Singing Bridge. It has the open metal roadway. As a kid used to ride my bike from Kittery, Me to Portsmouth, NH. The middle section (part they would elevate for boats) was the open metal. Thankfully the sidewalks were planked.

I fondly remember the simple days of twisting the tuning nob while driving without the need to look. Just the direction, amount of twist, and the change of sound was enough to land on a familiar station.

PJ what is the story behind the sailboat?
Guy was sailing down the Mississippi River on a 44-foot boat and missed the entrance to the Chain Of Rocks Canal, which goes around the chain of rocks anticlinal bedrock exposure that spans the width of the river just south of the old Route 66 bridge. He consequently got the boat stuck on the rock formations, and had to be rescued. It's been stuck there for the last two weeks.

I am not a great fan of open grid bridges, but that being said I am definately NOT a fan of bailey bridges either. There are quite a few of them in Northwestern Ontario that I have to cross with the train, grossing 140,000 lbs.
If you really want something lethal...open grate bridge with a wet grate while riding a motorcycle
Ever hear of a Vegematic?
"It Slices...it dices...!"

We have a few still in service around here.
I don't really mind them even on the motorcycle,
as hard as it was to get used to doing just relax and an easy grip on the bars and let her wiggle away as you cross.
And they don't collect snow or ice up as bad in the winter.

I crossed many of them when I rode bikes, ( motorcycles),always hairy even dry, but wet sure raised the pucker factor.
I fell on one in South Mills, NC on ny ten speed riding way too fast in the rain. I had scrapes in places where I didn’t know I had places.

Thanks for the sailboat story.

I know a couple roads you still drive thru a creek, there is no bridge. Both are pretty wide creeks, not just a little stream.

Third time for Rubbermaid plastic garden shed.
We get the floor down, that fit nicely on my beams, and then went to install the
first wall piece. Where is piece E?
There is no piece E...
4 piece C's which is likely one too many and no E. Won't go together without it.
So I go on to Rubbermaid customer service and after 23 minutes on hold, I just gave up.
So I had to send two guys home with some cash in their pockets and a shed going nowhere.
Would have been nice if they screwed up on the last piece, not the first...

got my truck back and they didn't do the rustproofing, said I bought the wrong stuff which I may have.
This stuff has to be washed off. I want something I can leave on overnight. So back came the rust converter and the Boeshield.
Maybe I'll do it myself, not sure there's enough room to slide under there with a creeper.

So I'm only batting about 1 for 3. Not very good, but then Mickey Mantle only batted .298 so I guess I'm ok...

Off early in the morning to get new tires. That at least should go very smoothly. Then home to harass Rubbermaid, likely only by email since they
won't answer their phones.

Often customer service is really customer disservice.

This morning, I just filled up my 2017 Ford Escape with the most expensive gasoline to ever be put in it. Yep, same old regular as always, but today was $2.999 at Buc-ee's. I haven't checked prices elsewhere, but Buc-ee's has always been the cheapest in the area. I'm guessing that they just jumped up above everyone else today for a change.
Still $2.799 here at various filling stations.

Looking good.

Can you post a shot of the outside? I wanted to show my wife and I couldn’t find it going back thru posts.
I pulled up computer version of TBN and holy cow, so many ads popped up it barely shows any posts. So glad I use the app.

38 and frost on the roof this morning, 70 later I’m told.
Doctor visit went ok, I found out I’m an old man with multiple health problems, so nothing really changed.

Kyle, I didn’t buy a kit, I bought a new carburetor. That of course is no guarantee that it’s the right size or that it’s good.

Gotta make a drugstore run, probably work on the cart, other than that I don’t have a lot on the docket today.
You might check the jets' (all of them) hole size compared to stock.
get that sailboat out of the Chain Of Rocks
I would guess that 3 powerful big block jet boats from the 70's and 80's to pull it out.
I just found out that a friend I’ve known since he was about 12, died last night, suddenly. He was only around 57 or so.
A definite one if a kind, stories I could tell. Great guy, I’ll miss him.
Sorry for your friend. Was it Covid related? My friend at work (who was on ventilator for weeks) is still wheelchair bound. His right leg is still mostly without feeling, but he says it sometimes feels like pins and needles. I'm praying that's a sign of recovering nerves maybe? He can now lock his knee, and walk a wee bit with a walker and 1 straight leg.

We are going to my wife's aunt's funeral this Saturday.

I have a bit of work, just barely enough to keep me busy. Praying some more work comes our way. The engineering teams have been writing proposals for weeks and weeks.

David, floor looks good. Hope Sophie's eye gets better.

Buppies, both nostrils open is good. :) Thomas, hope you get better too. Maybe those bears brought y'all the sniffles.

Prayers for our team, and our country.

My feet still feel like pins and needles from GBS.

Hope more work comes your way soon. Been a little slow at my work also.

Good evening all. 59F for the start, partly cloudy, light breeze. Wind cranked up soon after sunrise, variable cloudiness, and high temp was 77F, DP 55F. Rest of the week will warm warm, loe to mid 80's, normal is mid 70's. Was some what slow in getting started on bike ride, road work closed down part of my normal ride, email to let me know arrived 10 minutes after I left :(. Got call from chimney sweep running early, so quit after 13 miles instead of 20. Insert in good condition, chimney cap needs paint. Did get nap today, no work on wood pile.
Covid update: Cooke 4120 confirmed cases, 16 active cases, Montague 2592 confirmed cases, 16 active cases, Grayson, 16,067 confirmed cases, 209 active cases. Cooke 7, Montague 13, Grayson 67, new cases. Grayson number still don't add up

Phil nice pic
Ron sorry about the mix-up, hope you are ready when winter gets here. nice woodpecker
Buppies more prayers.
Rich you could always move south :)
Drew sorry about the heater controls, I understand completely. Can you just set a cabin temp? Several bridges with the grates or too narrow, 2 had a bend in the middle. Biked across Golden Gate, bike path was open grate, no fun on bike.

Eric have not seen it yet
Paul good to hear driver should be there soon. Glad you are getting along with W10, not my favorite flavor.

Bill hope the wood gets finished. they are proud of your gas
Randy hope your day goes well.
RNG glad you have a better system to deal with petcocks since you have a lot of them :) Sounds like Morrison's book would be hard for me to read.
PJ had seen something on that, did not realize it was the Chain of Rocks dam it was stuck on. Didn't the bridge have a bend in it?
Randy condolences on losing a good friend.
RS hope you can get ready for winter.
David hope Sophie's eye finishes healing soon.
Bird prices up here have jumped as well :(
Roy I remember the Veg-a-matic
Randy sorry about the crash.
Drew sorry about the problems with the shed, good luck getting the straightened out.
