Where would you hide at home Randy? I don't have a basement and it concerns me...
perhaps I'm imagining things but there seems to be more tornadoes happening and nastier storms in general.
Or as a neighbor told me today, frog drowners. Those five inch to ten inch rain systems are real killers.
I'm not worried about rain, my house is jacked up three feet, but tornadoes will tear anything down. Have a big chimney; wonder if crawling into the fireplace
opening would be the safest spot. With a helmet on...

I've seen guys build underground shelters but that doesn't work here due to the water issues. I'm 32 feet above sea level, not going to be wave flooded but a hurricane is something else. Was told there were water marks on my home's pillars two feet up. Yikes. The whole place under two feet of water. Folks who live near rivers and streams have it much worse. I grew up along the Delaware River in PA and witnessed many damaging floods. When I picked a place to retire, being near running water or the ocean was out. Reasonably close to, ok. I want to be near the water, not in the water.
But those tornadoes are scary; my truck goes nuts with warnings and flashing messages on the big nav screen if a tornado is reported in this area. But I don't have that at home. I'm usually not far away from a laptop and Wunderground though. But where to hide? This is a frame house, not going to last.

Drew, under the stairs is the strongest part of most 2 story houses. Usually there is a closet there. I have a wheeled storage cart in mine, so I can roll it out and roll me in if it gets too bad.

Speaking of Memory Foam - wait this has nothing to do with memory, just foam - The bees have a reprieve from being foamed because they did not attack me in my golf cart and let me get a pic. however I will be wearing protective gear when I chain saw the fallen tree that I left behind blocking the road.

Drew. The smallest most interior room. Usually a closet, hallway or bathroom. Cover yourself with heavy blankets or a mattress. Wearing a helmet isn't a bad idea. Laying in the bathtub covered by a mattress especially if a steel tub and multiple walls between you and outside.

An above ground shelter isn't a bad idea especially if built correctly.

None of these situations are guaranteed, but they help your chances. I don't think I'd get under the stairs incase it falls. Stair cases are heavy.

The farm I grew up on was hit by an EF3 this spring. Though no structure damage still too close. A couple that we know had a brand new home. Less than 6 months old. Took a direct hit from the same tornado and it was destroyed. They were hiding in the crawl space. It shifted the house off the foundation far enough to trap them. Fire Department had to rescue them uninjured.

62° and sunny later today. Right now i hear a bard owl in the distance.

73 this morning and headed to 96 today.

I've been up and down all night. The little window unit AC I installed yesterday never has worked. Acts just like they forgot the refrigerant. So I'll be uninstalling and returning it after another nap. That's all I've gotten tonight as the central AC is also on the fritz. Keeps freezing up. So I'll wash out the coils and see what happens. If no improvement guess I'll call my wife's cousin who owns an hvac business. Runs fine if you let it thaw out every little bit. Can't have a broken AC in this heat with a pregnant woman around.

Poured first cup of coffee. 63° with partly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 88° with another chance of thunderstorms in late afternoon. Another good day for a long walk. Yesterdays walk ended up being longer than previous day with no ill effects.

50 right now...high will be about 89 (didn't hit the high yesterday and I doubt it does today either).
Mowing is done (finished the field last night)...could do some more weed wacking, but not much left there to do either. Guess it'll be a putter around day...

Driver's side inboard CV boot is torn, throwing grease.

Passenger side stabilizer link is shot and flopping around and the lower ball joint boot is half missing, only comes as an assembly with the lower control arms and bushings.

CV joints may be worn as there's some slop, checked both sides in neutral they seemed similar ... so hard to say for sure as I have no experience with this particular vehicle.

2001 Ford Winstar with 170K miles.

Priced the parts for him ... not sure how much he wants to put into it.

Really is nice you're doing so much for your neighbor.
