71F and .86 inches rain last 24 hours. Raining as I type. Hurricane Iselle about 400 miles off Hawaii Island forecast to hit tonight.

Major mowing done, looks like an inside day.
Living off grid has it's advantages, no need to join the craziness of buying out the stores. Never did fully understand that concept lol

Be safe
Have a great day.

When you say "living off the grid" there are so many different ways to interpret that. I recently reread a classic novel "Alas, Babylon" authored by Pat Frank, it told about the survivors of a global nuclear war and their struggles to cope with the aftermath. They had no grocery stores, no gasoline, no electrical power, no prescription drugs and even obtaining a new pair of glasses was a major hurdle. So...tell us...and I am not being critical...how do YOU define "living off the grid"? We may all learn something from your input. Oh yes...Frank wrote his book in 1959!!!!

And when they found their secret stash of coffee and sugar? Yes, interesting book for the timeframe.

Yup, I can see where it is open to interpretation. Used locally, it tends to mean not being tied to public utilities, such as public water, electric, landline etc, but especially electric. So in our case we have a catchment water system, solar PV electric (generator backup) cell phones only, satellite TV, radio broadband internet, cesspool. At least we get a one lane road for our tax dollars and a place to take our garbage :) A bit more loose definition relates to being free of the power grid. Wonder how grid was defined in 1959?

Nice and sunny here in Ladysmith today.

Dave1949 - I did have fun with my girls yesterday, it was altogether too brief though, but thank you...

I had a phone interview this morning which seems to have gone well, but he warned me their process "is not fast". [sigh]
I got similar updates from my other prospects. Looks like even the ones who really want me will be 6, 8 weeks or MORE before I could actually get hired...

I met with my timber guy today and he says my stand is very healthy and it clearly responded well to their heavy thinning back in Nov 2010. But he is booked well into next year, and even though the timber market prices have improved, his estimate is nowhere enough (nor soon enough) to help me it seems. So next I'm going to ask my brokerage what are the ways to get some form of a hardship loan etc. from my retirement account and figure out the least costly option there. I simply cannot even consider just not paying my bills like I hear people are doing...

I can't seem to sell my ex's fancy car for what I owe on it (and I took out a 0% loan), no sure what to do about that either.

Thank God I don't have Ebola (yet)! LOL!

Dangnabit I sound like flipping Eyore!!!!

I'm kicking my own can now and I've just decided to go fire up the tractor for some anti-depressant seat time... Not sure what I'm gonna do yet, but I'm gonna do something!

Be well guys,
David

David MFW,

I would look into surrendering the ex's fancy wheels before taking a loan on your retirement account. I see equipment and vehicles now and then advertised as "surrendered", so you wouldn't be the only one forced by circumstances to hand over the keys and let the lien holder take their collateral. Better than having it repo-ed in the middle of the night. It's just business to the lien holder and it should be to you too :).
