Ed, I said Randy, but meant to address the Shenandoah note to you. Thanks for keeping us informed. I was gonna tell a tale of camping at Sandy Point near Edenton to Randy, got interrupted by Coco, and came back and forgot what I was doing.

I use to know a girl in Edenton...

Rainy until noon, then low 70's.

Good Morning! 48F @ 5:45AM. A mix of clouds and sun. High 69F. Winds light and variable.

Got a little over an inch of rain yesterday, most of which came yesterday morning at around 8AM. Hope it's enough to keep things green for a while longer.

Hope you enjoy those new 6ss, Ed. I don't notice a lot of difference between the new SE and old 4s I have here, other than it seems a little faster and there's another row of icons on the screen. None of the new apps from Apple hold any interest for me, but I do appreciate being able to load more music into the 64 Gb of memory. I've also started using a stand alone GPS program that can share its screen with a new Pioneer radio in the truck. That didn't work on the 4s, so that is one plus for the SE. The advantage with the stand alone GPS app is it isn't dependent on a cell phone signal to display the map, as long as you download the map for the state you're traveling through in advance.

Turns out my bulldozer neighbor also has a car trailer, and he's willing to loan it to me so I can bring up the donor Vanagon for cannibalization. Only trouble is that the plug for the lights is broken, but I will gladly fix that for him. I asked if he had a winch on it, and he does not, but he's willing to let me weld a receiver to it so I can mount mine. He also has the crimper for the 1/0 welding cable leads I need to power the winch, so it looks like a win-win from here. I'll head over there later this morning to see what we can do.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Good morning.
Well the house deal fell through for Katie and Dan. Seller backed out after saying okay. Long story but it would not of happened if they were not tring to get the loan through FHA. Too many nit-pick rules. Scared the seller off.

Got cold here, 42 right now heading to 68 later in the day. Katie and the kids may come out after 2:00pm

Wifes' car is fixed and the two log cars are weathered and on the layout.
Got a dead Ash to take down so some tractor work later.

Have a good one.

Rotenone ... ;)

nasty stuff actually, naturally...., used to kill invasive fish and creates Parkinson's like reactions
in humans if overdosed. Lovely.
But....it works. And it's organic. Maybe....all about the definitions.
Rotenone has been used as an organic[13] pesticide dust for gardens. Unselective in action, it kills potato beetles, cucumber beetles, flea beetles, cabbage worms, raspberry beetles, and asparagus beetles, as well as most other arthropods. It rapidly biodegrades under warm conditions, so harmful residues are minimal. A light dusting on the leaves of plants will control insects for several days.

Several days? I'm not dusting with this stuff every two days...yikes. As one's strawberries are covered in a layer of pesticide...yum.
Good reason to rewash anything you get in the store.
but yes RS, it may be all natural, but not sure I want to eat veggies covered in fish killer dust

55 this morning and headed to 73 today. Currently cloudy with light fog.

Don't know what I'll get into yet. Boys still sick but wife is feeling better I think. So maybe I can get out and do more than take care of chickens and cows. Grass it sure jumping. Good for the grazing areas but not for mowing.

Eric. 6013 likes clean metal. I never can get it to weld on rusty metal correctly.
6011 will burn through the rust though. Sometimes hard to restart because filler will burn a little faster than flux.
7014 is an easy burning production rod. Nice smooth bead. Easy restarts. Thick flux.
7018 for strength and structure.

If you have a rod that doesn't want to start try raking the tip on some concrete to roughen it up. Sometimes makes starting easier.

Drew. I use Seven in a liquid. Usually just spraying a couple of times a year. Potatoes a little more often.

I know it's not organic.

Good morning friends, 55 degrees here at 7 a.m. and forecast for low to mid 80's. Went 24 hours without rain for first time in a while

It will take a week or two for everything to get dry enough for some tractor time.

Have a great day!

Good morning all. Blue sky in every direction this morning, though not much above freezing - and they say it's going to get colder.

The welding addiction Kyle warned me about took hold after tea last night. A friend had given me a full pack of Lincoln 6013 to practice with, so I skipped coffee to get out as soon as possible and burn up a few rods. They are very nice, if I'm not careful, I can see me getting hooked on top branded rods to feed this habit.

Yes, Yes, the call of the sirens, beckoning from the garage. Oh the luxury of dry rods, plenty of clean metal, and electricity.

48.5F and overcast @ 10:30 ... high today predicted to be 59F ...

Got expanded metal backstop welded on to grapple yesterday. Still have a few spots to weld on the backside this morning. Three separate pieces, took forever ... but I think it will hold up pretty well.

Fix hydraulic leaks and then install Weather Pack connector is on the menu today.

Note to Eric: make sure you wear a long-sleeve shirt when you're welding if you plan on welding a lot (probably good idea even if you aren't) ... otherwise you might wind up with a nasty sunburn from the UV radiation (ask me how I know ...)

Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

Yeah ... be sure not to put too much of it into your wine cooler ... or inject it into your jugular vein like they did with the rats/mice in the study ...

Lemme see if I understand this correctly:

All you're looking for is a long-acting, selective, "organic" pesticide (that only kills the bad bugs) ... that is perfectly safe for humans ...

When you locate this, I'd say you might also wanna check the local environs for the presence of other rare creatures ... such as unicorns ...

But....it works. And it's organic. Maybe....all about the definitions.
I'd say it's more about the expectations ...

Several days? I'm not dusting with this stuff every two days...yikes.
Article said that it was active for six days ...

FWIW, we didn't "dust" with it (which is probably a good way to inhale it) ... I mixed it with water and sprayed.

As one's strawberries are covered in a layer of pesticide...yum. Good reason to rewash anything you get in the store.
Common sense ... ;)

but yes RS, it may be all natural, but not sure I want to eat veggies covered in fish killer dust
You sound ... (wait for it) ... conflicted ...

Good morning! 86˚ wait that is not right, my weather station must have spiders in it again. Bright sunny day. Rick just informed me that Christy was on the news again this time someone was filming with a drone. Family finds alligator hanging out in backyard swimming pool Rick, whose house was that, it is a nice estate.

Don't remember, that was12 hours ago. I starting to forget what I had for breakfast.

Looked at it again and it was in Missouri City, SW of Houston.

With the sound of the video I thought it was a drone but it was a news helicopter. With all the rain I would not be surprised if she gets more calls. 40 years ago, I bought my first house was in Missouri City, and then it flooded two months later . . . .

This is your fault you got me started.

My Grandpa walked on crutches for over 70 years and never ate much, said he couldn't because he walked on his hands. One day I took him to Richmond to get his hearing aids worked on. On the way back he had me stop at the Krispy Kreme Donut place. He handed me $2 and said get 2 dozen. I went in and got the donuts and when I got to the truck he asked "Was that enough money?" and I said Yea Grandpa. I ate a couple donuts and he finished the 2 dozen before we got home. He got out of the truck and headed for his bedroom for some turpentine, stuck his tongue on the bottle and tipped it up, said it gets rid of that over full feeling. A couple years later after his funeral a bunch of us grand kids were sitting around talking about Grandpa and I told this story. Several others said they had told Grandpa that they had enough money too, and each of us said that was the only time they ever saw Grandpa over eat but none were surprised at Grandpa and his turpentine. Ed

Thats a good one ED i take full blame.

Like I said, I use diatomaceous earth, kills the critters and harmless, except if you breath a lot of the dust, it'll irritate your nose. It's 100% organic and relatively cheap.

I use Sevin on my fruit trees early in the year for beetles, then switch to diatimacious earth. I make a whitewash with it and paint the trunks, and dust the leaves and blooms.

Thanks, wngsprd, I enjoy working on the train layout and the grand kids love it almost as much as doing things in the yard and woods. Something for all seasons.
Today,

Well I went ahead and cut that 60+ foot dead Ash next to the driveway in front of the shed. Was pretty puckered up before it fell hoping it would go the way I wanted it to, but it fell perfect. Got to use the grapple a lot. Gave all the core stump age wood to Brian to split and sell to the campers. I have more than I can use of dead Ash. Saved a few small trash loads for when the grand kids came over so they could ride along to the burn pile. Man O man I can't believe how well Jordan the two year/almost three old can steer the tractor. He even knows how to pick up the RPM. We had fun, for sure.

Have a good night, I am beat. Here are some pictures of one of the three sections of the trunk of the Ash. it was a 4 legged tree. I cut 3 of them last fall and took the big one today. It sure can bring up the heart rate as your cutting one of these thing in close quarters like this one was. It fell, just where I hopped it would. :scratchchin:

good evening all. Not caught up yet but tired and post quick update. Trip to Missouri went well, L couch on the deck boat rebuilt with 3/4 in. wolmanized plywood (original 1/2 in. no-exterior grade plywood). 50 hours work in that puppy, looked more like an aircraft spar than a seat back :(. Had about 5 in. of rain while gone, more coming next week. 57F this morning, 77 for high. Windy tomorrow, as wife and I play in a couples golf tournament tomorrow.
