Good morning!!!!

Good morning. I've started the day pondering over some of the most profound questions in this universe -

Waking up and it's still dark - can I last until daylight, or do I get up for a pee now ?

Will the wood burner go another day before cleaning the ash out ?

Is there another squeeze left in that tube of toothpaste ?

Hope you found an answer to the first one by now.

44 going to 49 and rain all week and stays above freezing until Friday early AM...good week for planning, inside cleaning and a few outside chores between rains.

Started raining before I finished pruning the grape vines yesterday, but decided to get wet in order to check that job off the list. Gave my wife a nice pair of Fiskars pruners in her Christmas stocking, so I borrowed them...nice easy, clean cut if using them right handed...but I'm a southpaw, and they were pretty lame...so pulled out my old ones, don't even know the brand and worked for me much better.

We finally got some much needed rain overnight. I'm guessing over an inch. My pond was down at least 1.5 feet.

Monday....

40 this morning and headed to 55 today. Weatherman this morning said for February 20, 2015 we set a record low of -7, and for February 20, 2016 we set a record high of 75. What a difference a year can make. 82 degrees.

Have some maintenance to do in the chicken coops today. Hopefully I can get this done in time to work on water hydrant project. I'll at least bail the hole out this morning. Still trying to locate that booger.

Have a good one.

55 here going to 78 and sunny. Debating on watering the garden because they say we will have rain tomorrow. I picked up the panels for the round pen, as well as my last bag of goat chow and a mineral tub for the cows at TSC. Today I have to go look at a shower that isn't working correctly, and run some errands in Chiefland. Then home to build the round pen. Was hoping to have tractor time raking and leveling the pen area. Thinking of ordering a load of clean sand to dump in there.

The wife is already whinning that she will miss the goats, but in reality it is the kids she will miss, and they grow up. Hope the cows calf soon...

Eric never fight the first one, and always remember you at least can stand for relief, the wife has to sit and that seat can get down right frosty on cold mornings. :D

Coffee is done brewing. 57° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 83° with sunny skies. Not much planned for today.
Sad stories from MI. 6 dead from shooting. Another 6 dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. Running a generator in a garage. This happen in town where my youngest son lives in. Prayers for their families and friends.
Kyle, glad you got some rain.
Eric, those sound like personal questions.
RS, you will find when those CFL lights come on in the cold. They will take awhile to get to full brightness. I have switched to LED except for yard lights. Will replace those with LED this summer. Instant bright light.
MKR, like you grapple. I built a similar one for my tractor several years ago. Use it to pickup and move trees and other loose material.
Good Morning All.

Good Morning! 47F @ 6:10 AM. Abundant sunshine. High 69F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Today the water softener tech visits for the third time to try to fix the brine barrel problem. They've rebuilt the valve head, then replaced it, now they think there's an air leak in the siphon tube that pulls brine out of the barrel. The theory is that if the vacuum is only partial because of the leak, less water will be pulled out of the barrel than the controller thinks should be coming out, and that leads to the barrel eventually filling up, tripping the overflow switch, at which point the regeneration process is prevented until the water is bailed out of the brine barrel by hand. Until that happens I no longer have softened water, and the plumbing fixtures and dishes turn into a frosty mess. Again. Fortunately the revisits have not cost me anything, except for the first "repair", and the time tied up waiting for the repair tech to show up.

Got the winch mount bracket fabbed yesterday, and will get the winch mounted to the receiver today. It won't work until I can bring home some heavy cable to get battery power to the winch, but that just means a trip to the welding distributor later in the week, or maybe some Amazon shopping. Since this winch will move from vehicle to vehicle, and I'm not really keen on using alligator type clips to make the battery attachment, I'm looking around for a safer and weather tight alternative. Anyone using something they like? Maybe something like this?

Morning guys, slept in to wipe off the after Datona race beers. Just checked the bank account and heading out the door for grapple hoses and fittings. Maybe it will be working today. Hope so because they are talking a 4"+ snow mid week and I will need to put the snow plow back on. SO would be nice to finish this up first.
Sunny now and 30F degrees with heavy frost. Their talking 40F later and cloudy.
Kev, Nice fence. I have always wonder why people have goats. How do they get along with Coyotes??? We had them on the farm when I was a kid and we kept our distance from them.
Eric, I get lucky on question number one. The wife gets up at 4:00AM to get ready for work. So I always wake up..No reason to wait at that point. The down side ronjhall is my coffee is never fresh when I get up. :yuck:
RS, I don't think I would want CFLs for security, They come on so slow in the cold you may miss the shot. Our LED comes on right now. I will be changing all of the CFLs to LED as they die.
Redneck, Those lift truck style should work good but not water tight. Also look at snow plow connectors for the Elct over Hyd units.
Hudson John, enjoy the day at school.

... RS, you will find when those CFL lights come on in the cold. They will take awhile to get to full brightness. ...
Yup, I have found that (we've been running CFL's in the outside lights at the front door for a couple of years now)

That's why - at this point at least - they get turned on at dusk and left on all night long.

I also have four 500w halogen floods at the rear of the house (two at each corner) that are also left on from dusk to dawn. Will probably put those on motion sensors eventually.

And I won't miss.

Our LED comes on right now. I will be changing all of the CFLs to LED as they die.
I'll be changing all our CFL's to LED as the price continues to drop:

4 pak of 100w (eq) CFL bulbs = $10

A single 100w (equiv) LED bulb = $9

Those would work perfect had them on a few vehicles for just that! If you have any forklift places around you they should carry these and may be cheaper. You can buy just the housings or kits that contain the tips also. They would probably also have plenty of cable in stock as well.

Good Morning. 0905, mostly cloudy, 63F with 97% humidity. Forecast high of 71F with 50% chance of rain today, and a low of 58F tonight. Looks like some cooler temps this week after the rain blows through. Low of 35F on Friday. I will have to get back on my last frost watch.

I'm going into town early today. I have a buddy who got permission to camp on timber land owned by the company he works for. He was so impressed by my tarp and paracord condo, he wants some help setting his up. It's true swamp land, so we will have to take elevation into consideration when we are choosing a site. Should be fun. I'm even gifting him a tarp so we can get something up today.

Speaking of camp, I stayed at mine last night and got in 45 minutes of moonlight shoveling. With Spring so close, I have to get going on my underground camp or it will get lost in the flood of other things that has to be done.

You guys have a good one,

Larro
