Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #42,841
Greetings everyone - I haven't been here for about 8 months, since about June 2015. True to life things change. Finishing up my Business Administration 2 yr diploma in April, and then will be working from home ... taxes, bookkeeping, basic accounting, marketing (desk jockey stuff). My back is still a problem following that car accident a few years ago. My wife is using a cane and walker, the kids are almost out of the house, and we decided to stay on the property. We are almost debt free... momentarily. For accessibility / health / medical needs, we had considered moving to another province (Alberta), another community, and even into town. We decided that the budget could afford a renovation, and that we would be further ahead by staying put. Basically splitting the house into two levels, with upper and lower suites. We will move downstairs (easier access from garage) and rent out the upper suite (access from deck, stairs). I might be able to get back into hobby farming - some potential renters want chickens etc. Ultimately, I wanted to maximize the potential on the 7.5 acres here, and this can work. Haven't decided on the zero-turn mower yet, still wanting the BX25D (or newest version) for use on the property. There's an update for you. Tractor on...

Kev, A professional looking job. Talked to the guy I was supposed to look at a JD STX38 Lawn tractor to replace the one that I have had for 26 years that the trans went after all of those years of use and towing a Cyclone Rake. He is a bit under the weather so we agreed to look at it next Saturday. Kev, invited me to join. We have been friends for a few years from another forum. More about me later, John

Good to see you here John,
I guess here I am known as Kev from the North. Not to be confused with KevT from Texas.
Tomorrow before the race, I will mount the grapple and start deciding on lines routing. It has been a fun project.
Let us know how it goes with the JD STX38 purchase.

Some great looking projects, per usual :)

Welcome John.

Welcome back chicken! Glad to hear things are on the upbeat.

A dull, windy and slightly wet day in store, much better than dull, windy and very wet as yesterday, although then as anticipated I did find it quite relaxing to work in the barn and hear the rain pounding on the roof.

Not anticipated and certainly not relaxing was to hear the sound of water falling from a height - inside . Over in the corner, where I keep my chainsaws, a good sized puddle was wondering to itself how deep it could get before becoming a stream. The wind looks to have loosened the side gable flashing . Oh well, another job to add to the list ...

about 40 right now...much warmer than yesterday's prediction. Maybe I'll be able to scrape more ice off the drive and walks.
High today will be in the low 40's.

   / Good morning!!!! #42,849
Roy I wish I could send you more of the 72 degrees here to melt your ice.
Otherwise a pleasant Sunday to you all.

I'm really hoping it gets warm enough today for me to paint my restored Cub Cadet.
Overnight lows in the 50's means if I can get the frame and rear end, big blocks of iron and steel, up
ten more degrees, I can paint and hopefully not have it curdle on me. Rain is coming in tomorrow so my
window of opportunity is short.

I have an IR heat gun, so it's just a matter of what temp to start.
If the outside is warmer than the metal, there's always the issue of condensation, which for sure is not a good idea
under oil paint. So I'm going down shortly to put a electric heaters under the unit plus a fan later to blow the paint fumes out the side of the barn.
Luckily the old girl is pretty close to the wide barn doors, but I'll wear my respirator while doing this.

One of the spots I was so looking forward to in the garage building I decided not to build was a paint booth.
Now at some point I'm going to enclose one of my barn wing sheds and make a painting area in there away from everything else.
Oh for a concrete floor and some heat...
Shouldn't be too hard to enclose, yet another project.
Nothing like job security in retirement.

I can't imagine how bored I'd be if I lived in a townhouse.

49 going to 64, and rain coming in.

I should be able to finish the grape vine pruning before the rain hits. Maybe even tackle an apple tree or two.

Welcome John, and welcome back scaredychicken.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 57° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 84° with sunny skies. Not much planned. NASCAR race starts at 11:00am.
Schicken, welcome back.
H685, welcome to Good Morning.
Good Morning All.

About 40F and clear here ... should be a pretty nice day.

Might do a little 12 ga plinking ... :D

RS, sounds like you got the Olympic version of my neighboring 20 year old who also had a felony stealing conviction.
LOL ... yeah, I guess you could say that.

There's a whole bunch more to my little story that I haven't written up yet ... but I will ... and you will probably be amazed ... :D

And who I finally asked to get a real job and not come back until he was always sober on the job. Geez, sounds awfully similar...my guy worked for me for a year. And it got worse, as those heading down the wrong path usually find out.
Unfortunately some folks are just too unobservant to realize that they are nearly in a free fall on the downward spiral ...

I'm not going to lock and load, but will go with camera surveillance 24/7.
Unfortunately, I was left with no other option than to lock and load.

When someone starts making statements that can be inferred as a stated intention to do one physical harm - IOW: violence, possibly including murder - it's something one has to take very seriously.

Particularly if one is aware that that someone has - at least at some point in the past - had the necessary means (loaded semi-auto handgun) in their possession.

Add usage of mind-altering substances in the mix, and it becomes all the more serious.

I told him it was uploaded to the Cloud, but it's not...someone could take the whole box with the memory card in it. One camera forward, two to the rear covering the barn area. If something disappears, I'm sure headed for that video card.

I guess i ought to upgrade to a Cloud storage device; I have ADT here so maybe they have something to offer that's not expensive. Otherwise this stuff is available on Amazon. I just bought the cheaper model without all the connectivity. Well, if I upgrade, at least all the cameras are installed; that's most of the work.
I have a number of wireless sensor alarms here. I won't mention what type ... because revealing that would make too much info publicly available that could be possibly used to compromise our security/defeat the system.

We also have a whole-house alarm system, that was originally set to signal a Central Office of a local alarm company. Since that company is now out of business, it's usefulness has been marginalized to some extent ... although if it is armed and then set off it has several sirens. The outside siren is loud enough to be painful if you are standing anywhere near it, and it will have my immediate neighbors calling the local police department within a minute or two.

I'll be working on getting it up and running and fully functional over the next several days.

Cameras don't work if folks are crazy. And that includes under the influence of serious drugs for sure.
You betcha ...

Temps have fallen off to the 40s and it is cloudy and won't get much warmer. So I will work on mounting the grapple, deciding on hose lengths then watch the race and go to Krogers for some grub. Looks like when the grapple is in the clamped position and the bucket is curled all the way down that will be max length. But there will be a lot of of hose to control when it is in the open clamp curled up position. I wonder what others do and how they do it? Maybe I should start another thread about this but afraid it would just wind up as TMI so I will just work my way through it.

Well here is a little up-date. Grapple is mounted and ready to plumb. the rope in the pictures is there for hose length measurements. Will work on the plumbing tomorrow while wifey is at work.

You might find this article helpful...
Thanks ... and I did.

With the 320 I can put 5 in the magazine + 1 in the chamber.

Some additional shell storage on the buttstock looks pretty cheap and easy ... so that will be an item for today's to-do list.

A Remington 870 equipped with a pistol grip plastic stock, IC riot barrel, 8 rnd. mag extension, and SureFire forend helps me rest easy here...
I slept pretty peacefully last night myself ... with my new "little friend" cradled in my arms ... :D

Welcome John, and just to set the record straight, I am in FL. not TX :D

Drew, might be a little late but I agree that wood will hold moisture on your tank, so will concrete. You are best if you add a strip of plastic along the contact points. The rocks look really good on the culvert, had to be back breaking.

RS, My best security at the house is a 100 pound American Bulldog, warns in advance and is intimidating till you can touch him, then he rolls on his back and wants his belly scratched. He has chased a few people off the property though.

Yesterday had a friend come by with a new to him dozer that he wanted to try out, so we started clearing another field
20160220_074102a.jpg 20160220_101615a.jpg Another friend came by that is a tree surgeon and he climbed and trimmed out the tees where I want to put the implement shed. So I now have my work for the summer laid out for me, lots of burning, discing, seeding and building a shed. The friend with the dozer is coming back with a trac hoe to get the big trees the dozer would not budge.

Today I am a little sore from yesterdays activities, so I am going to take it easy. I am going to TSC and pick up 12 12 foot corral panels and a 4 foot gate to make the round ring my wife wants. I will have to move fences to put it where she wants it, so that is what I will be doing this week.

was 45 when I got up this morning (5am) and is heading to 78 today. Supposed to have some rain coming in for the next 3 days, we will see.

60 this morning and headed to 63 today. Then to 39 tonight. .16 inches of rain so far today. Buppies what about this system I'm hearing about for the middle of the week?

Take care of chickens today and rest. Although the wife wants to go grocery shopping. Ended up at doctor yesterday as my throat hurt to breathe. Back on antibiotics. But she had hopes that once the new allergy meds got in my system good these instances should decrease. We'll see.

RS. This is what I use for the alarms for the chickens. It can also be configured to a home security system. You program the numbers it calls and one could be 911. If you don't answer. Sensaphone 400 Monitoring System

Kev nice dozer. Always nice to have friends with steel tracks. My problem is that I'm the friend with the steel tracks.

Welcome to the new and returning guys. Hopefully this will be a helpful site.

Sorry Kev. Must be the Oldheimer's getting the best of me.
Looks like you could use one of them grapples on that clean-up job. How big is the shed going to be???
Wife and I just finished up some hot hot hot breakfast burritos I made. Bet I pay for it later.
