15F & snow shower, less than 1" expected. Could see mid-20's later today.

Here's the new cabinets hiding the mini-split lines. For back-fitting I think we did a reasonable job of covering things up. Would have been better if it was planned during construction, but that's life.

Above the frig. A blank space on the left for the refrigerant lines going up into the attic. The condensate drain is on the other side of the wall behind the frig which is the laundry room. It goes to waste line clean out like in the pic below but no need to hide that one.
frig cab.jpg

In the corner of the bathroom with the refrigerant lines going up into the attic and condensate drain going down to a waste line clean out. The cabinet has removable side panels on the clean out side if a snake would ever be needed.

It's 7 degrees at my place. With the wind chill it feels like -14. I won't be doing much for about 4-6 weeks. I broke my hand Saturday afternoon. And I'm off work just as long or longer. Depends on if I need physical therapy on my hand.

I'm liking the pizza talk. It's one of my favorite foods.

Enjoy the day fellas.

dave 1949....I did construction for 35 years and it's ALWAYS so much easier to do new work rather than retrofit but one never knows how things are going to work out until the last item on the punchlist is crossed off. Was out back-blading with my Deere this morning, then the wind picked up about 25 mph and drove me indoors. News here tells of huge multicar pile ups about 60 miles southwest of us (Battle Creek) and numerous accidents in downtown Lansing (I-496) and I am glad we planned our week around the bitter weather. It's one of the great benefits of being off the treadmill...I spent a LOT of my career dealing with winter weather and don't miss it one bit.

Good morning all. 13F this morning clear and breezy. Has already warmed up to 22F and WC of 8F. Only 1 day above freezing until late next week. Cleaned the ashes today in fireplace, will restart fire later today. Have grocery shopping and a wood pick up on agenda today.

Ma'am, why did you stop?
I don't know, uh, that big truck got me flustered.
Oh.

Two cars at a right turn on red. Big semi goes by and two old ladies in a black Cruze pulled out in front of me. I looked left, nothing in the road, and pulled right, right into the back of their car. They had stopped in the middle of the road, just outside the intersection.

Well, stupidity doesn't allow me to rear end them but grrrrrrrrrrr.
And worse, an exceptionally friendly detective stopped, and said he had to write it up and give me a ticket.
Then he coached me on how to get rid of it by getting a letter from the little old lady saying they were fully satisfied and he said usually the judge tosses the ticket. I told him exactly what happened, that I was wrong, but she did something really stupid. He just rolled his eyes in sympathy.

$654 to her rear bumper. It had been repainted twice before she let slip. Hmmmmm, one has to wonder.
And thanks to a $481 headlight my Avalon will cost 2100 to fix since the sheet metal bent back and holed the tire. Off I went on a wrecker, seriously defeated. Hey, no one was hurt and no matter how idiotic her driving, it was my fault.

The detective was extremely nice, and when he was done, he said, you know, I want to thank you for being so honest. It's a real pleasure to hear out here.

That's two dents in that car in four months. It's jinxed....time to get a Challenger Hellcat.:D

The best BBQ places, like award winning Snow's BBQ, out here have stacks of post oak behind their pits. The smoke smells the best from post oak.

Post Oak is good.. But I REALLY like fruit woods. Cherry is best, but peach, plum, etc is good as is apple. Even the non fruiting cherry and like Bartlett pear work very well. Sweeter smoke, sweeter meat... The award winning chef in ST Louis (top10 BBQ in America) he agreed with me as we chatted over dinner one time. he prefers fruit woods also... Sometimes I combine the fruit wood and oak... depends on what Ive got ready to go...

Be well all,
David

David, where do you find this old fruitwood? Most fruit trees will go 30-40 years then that's it, they don't live/produce forever.
so some must be dying out all the time. Local orchards? For the true smoker connoisseur, that would be like the French out hunting truffles...find the good stuff which is not easy to find. Do you have an old orchard on your property?

I'm about to go out and prune my ten little trees in a month. Just the top shoots mostly from apple and pear trees.
Would you like me to box them up and send them to you? Probably too immature, unripe...

I love dogwoods. But when they die, my do they make the best firewood.
Fully productive until the end.
Like all of us I hope.

120+ vehicles in that Michigan pile up Bill mentioned. One truck was carrying fireworks. Another had a load of formic acid. Yee ha. Quite the mess. At least one death.

Drew, sorry about the traffic mishap. Stuff happens. Check any area orchards for fruitwoods. Apple orchards usually sell limb wood trimmings by the apple box. About a 3'x3' box.

18F headed to 2F by morning. Similar temps and sunny tomorrow.

Nasty blowing snow weather at Southbend IN today too. My truck driver brother said it took him 2 hours to go 8 miles on I-80 this afternoon.

Temps dropping all night said weather patterns are like the winter of 1978. Better hope not.

Drew, glad that you and the ladies are okay.

I've had to cut down some old dead cherry and apple trees - always a sad time, but they burn so nicely. You can buy bags of cherry chips and other woods for smoking in grills -last bag I bought was from Bass Pro.

Got the wood splitter going this afternoon on 1/3 the pulls from last time - maybe the Sea Foam is working. More to split tomorrow.

We have used various kinds of wood chips over the years and had good results with most of them. Some are pretty strong. Woods not normally thought of as smoking woods worked out pretty well too. We liked hickory, apple and cherry the most. Some maples were nice. We found mesquite good but easy to get too much of.

We got our small wood chips and would soak them in water for an hour or so before needed. They would last a long time so you don't need a lot of them. Big chunks didn't do as well for us. It's a great side benefit to a wood chipper.

I like the pizza stuff. Gives me some ideas!!

The last couple of days have been pretty bad for expressway driving. I96 was pretty slow this am, due to hundreds of cars and trucks being towed out today, that slid off the pavement last night. The accidents on US23 and I94 were in areas where there are big fields alongside the road. The snow just keeps blowing over the road, as fast as it is plowed.

For bbq around here hickory is choice. Some add Apple to an oak fire and some mix oak and hickory. Especially for pork. Mutton is almost all hickory or hickory and oak. When you talk bbq here most assume pork. Some will ask.

Drew hate to hear about your traffic mishap. Hate that the cop felt he needed to add a ticket on top of it all. Some just don't believe in true accidents. Which is what yours sounds like. Have a better tomorrow.

My late neighbor kept driving until he was 88. He went thru 4 cars in 3 years. He had several low speed accidents, claimed to have had 4 car deer collisions in 6 months. My wife and I have lived next door for 28 years, drive the same roads, and haven't hit 1 deer. He sideswiped road signs frequently, and rear ended a truck, totaling his car, putting himself in the hospital. He still didn't get a ticket. He backed into a tree in my yard, missing the driveway by several feet, and asked me when I put that tree there? The tree is a oak, and least 50 years old, and was there when I moved in, nearly 30 years ago. His daughter & I talked to him quite a bit about this. He didn't talk to his daughter for a year over this. I tried talking to his doctor, but he ignored me, and would not tell him he couldn't or shouldn't drive. Nobody wanted to be the bad guy. I think as the boomers age, this is going to be a huge problem.

Drew, I am writing this in reference to the little old ladies with multiple accidents, not you... :)
