Good morning!!!!

Love this time of year, 70s-80s daytime, cooling off to mid 50s at night.. had a break between meetings at work this morning, so went out and finished mowing lawn (started it the other day with my granddaughter). Wife sprayed for bugs a few hours later (we have had black flies bite the granddaughter on back of neck, leaves a bloody mess, itches).

You need to watch her for swelling.
Many years ago I got a blackfly bite on the back of my hand. The hand swelled up 3 times its normal size and I got really dopey.

We have a pair of red-tail hawks that have been nesting in the pines for several years, and then hang around all year. While I was running the bush hog, I saw this bird shadow rapidly getting closer - looked up in time to one of them make a dive onto the ground about 20 yards away, and then lift up with a vole...flew over and landed on a fence post...then over to the nest. Came back a few minutes later and landed on a tree branch above the edge of the field, again "watching like a hawk.

Wondering what the hawk was thinking...You been warn Mr. ;)

I woke up the black flies when I mowed today. When they got really annoying I fired up a cigarette and they soon left.

Yep works every time  except on deer flies. :(

Pretty good day here. Got the 3 inch pvc sleeve in the trench, bedded in sand and mostly backfilled and compacted.
IMG_0361.JPG

So, if anyone with paver experience care to offer advise, I’m all ears.

My plan:
Using 8x4x2 brick pavers (really red colored concrete)
Add about 2+ inches sand to trench, level but do not compact, leaving about 1 1/2 for the 2 inch brick. Backfill laid brick with sand. Not sure best approach from here. Tamp down, water, just let nature settle, or something else? I’m assuming the unpacked sand will pretty much take the extra 1/2 inch height, prefer a bit lower than too high, seems repacked dirt always settles for me.

Don, any words of wisdom? Anyone?

Got some of the gravel spread today in the parking area. Still have a good amount left for another area that needs it. Got chased inside by a t-storm that kicked up some dirt and only sprinkled a few drops...... Couldn't get motivated to go back out again. Tomorrow is another day!

David, I would place the sand as you stated, but then use a large rubber / plastic mallet to "tap" (beat) the bricks into the sand. You can leave them up above maybe a 1/4". Then fill in any spaces with sand by "brooming" or brushing the sand in the cracks.

The only other piezo igniters I have are on old Coleman propane stove and lantern. 100% reliable over all these years, the thought that other versions would not be never even occurred to me. It just slipped my mind that HF still makes and sells crap, and I guess the weed burner is just another example. Made it past the warranty, though, though that's not much consolation.

Went by HF today to exchange my torch. None in store, none in Houston warehouse.

The stated "recall problem" is that the valve handle sticks and spring return close doesn't work.

I gave both of mine a little dose of Fluid Film on the valve plunger.

Both work like new now.

Jay, so correct my friend, I do deserve it LOL.

Actually had a short conversation wife Sophie re the tractor. This is not a new topic, more than a year ago we discussed my selling both the CaseIH and Kioti and replace with new tractor. Maybe 6 months ago, somewhat out of the blue she casually mentioned that perhaps I would want to upgrade to a new truck, some time later I thanked her but said I was quite pleased with my 2012 Tundra and saw no real benefit to replace it and would cost more than the benefit. I did say, I’d prefer going with new tractor instead. Her one stand out comment today was how all the tools we get have paid for themselves. Naturally, I gave her credit.
The real challenge (for me) is the timing. I had been thinking maybe next year. So how to shift and shuffle $ if I act sooner. Situation is further aggravated by fact we are taking son and his family on Alaska cruise end of June.
Ah, the decisions required of an aging body

We really like our XR3135HC, David. LS is certainly worth a look. They sell you a lot of tractor for the money.

I certainly agree. Have been reading you and other LS owners comments.

Locally, JD and Kubota are the main dealers, some New Holland, some Case, still a Massey dealer I think, and recently LS.

I went thru all the mind boggling research back when I bought my Kioti and pretty much the reasons involved how much you got for the cost. Even though I bought on the mainland I asked the Kubota dealer here for a quote on equivalent package. I could have bought both my CK30Hst and a Ck20 for backup for what the K dealer quoted. Dealer had changed, but I doubt prices have improved significantly. An to be honest, I’d rather the extras included by Kioti and LS than the cost of the name for less features.

As I thought about my eventual replacement, I pencilled out all the alternatives based on web prices. I was soon thinking that even without on island support (only dealers on Oahu and Maui) I just might get another Kioti. Then I discovered that LS had a local dealer - Steve’s Honda. I’ve watched this place grow over the years. Besides Honda, he sells lots of mowers, Scag for 1, Kawasaki Mules, trailers, etc. then there was the time I drove past last year and he must have just taken delivery of a dozen blue tractors. They weren’t NH so didn’t pay much mind and since I learned he is an LS dealer, haven’t seen a single tractor displayed. To be honest, most anything displayed outside takes up parking space, so quite limited and anything displayed gets put away every night. Yesterday, I learned than he has 3 other LS in the back of the warehouse with probably more than a dozen other machines in front of them ( including a battery operated Z turn, $20k). A fact of life here, everything as a transportation cost and no same name competition.
This guy was never low price when I’ve bought stuff, so was quite surprised when he gave me price on the XR.
