........................
You would think driver would be smarter than the wildlife.

at night? Maybe...and these new collision radars help.
But some folk don't slow down, and that's unwise...you have no idea
what is going through the head of the animal, fight or flight, and clearly flight.
But where....
some deer are so tame around here they don't move at all, just stand along the roadway munching away
on something.

the sound of a male elk bellowing a challenge.
Is this like the really large version of that rooster who keeps cockle doodle doing all day
long defending his territory?

Bison. Now those things would be seriously hard even on a truck. Might not drive away from that.
Probably same with elk, get those antlers in your radiator...

As I go out to do more patching on my almost new driveway, I sure wish Buppies had done it.
I think about 1100 feet. Edges crumbling and tree roots buckling. Fighting Mother Nature in some ways.
Going to put more dirt along edges for support in key areas, like where trucks drive over. Some parts already wrecked,
patched, looks poor, going to put a one foot by fifteen foot ramp there connecting to the main thorofare back to the barn, concrete and then pavement sealer over it to match. I had always thought I'd put a gravel driveway through that section of lawn but I left the lawn in, looks
nicer at least from afar. Lot of truck ruts though, sure slow down in the lawn mower.

Morning fog burning off. Looks nice outside, time to get going, but slowly.

Will go cut about 15 acres of hay today.

sounds like "making hay while the sun shines"
Farmer you are working hard on a Sunday. Even if you're in an a/c cab with tunes on.
try to get your wife to take your picture out there, when she brings you lunch
like in the 50's commercials.

Drew. Your way too funny. No cab and no a/c. Do have tunes thanks to radio ear protection. And wife ain't about to bring me no lunch. She'll be headed to school to get everything ready for the week. Boys are headed to church with my mom and she'll keep them for the afternoon. Livestock farms don't get days off. Everything has to eat.
Oh yeah and it's calving season so will be checking cows. Already have 3.

I hope the elk move down the spine of the mountains to NC and Georgia where they once were. We have a few elk in western Maryland. Pretty day but hot later. I forgot how big Suburbans are until I started cleaning mine. I call it Moby Dick! :D

Got FIL's push mower going. It hasn't been used for about 6 years. He thought he could just put gas in it and go. Carb cleaned, pressure washed off 6 years of grime and dirt, changed oil, new blade, and needed a new gasket between the carb and air filter. Was lucky there is a small engine repair shop just south of town on a farm road and he had the gasket. Put a fuel filter inline and the thing fired up on the first pull. Wish it had a fuel shutoff valve to run the carb dry when done....

5420 still has a slow leak in the front tire after previously removing and using a wire cup wheel to clean the inside of the rim. I took it back apart yesterday. Much of the new paint came off of the rim and stuck to the tire's bead. I used a grinder and sanding disk to remove most of the pinholes from the rust this time. Just put 2 light coats of rustoleum yellow on it and it is now sitting in the sun. I bought a quart of tire bead sealer to apply when going back together. We are still hot down here. Sure could have used a cool spell to work on that tire. I started making a list of things to do on the 5420 this fall. I noticed the last time I tried to mow, it was stalling out under high loads. AKA fuel filter. I bought a new fuel filter/water separator and an inline pre filter, and put that on yesterday. I need to refresh my memory how to properly bleed the fuel system now. Might tackle that today after church.

Y'all have a great day.

Good Morning!!!! 62F @ 8:30AM. 0% Precip. / 0.00 in. Mostly Sunny. High 79F. Winds NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

The mind giveth and the mind taketh away, Drew. This week, I found a little Swiss Army pocket knife buried in the couch cushions where it had been for several weeks (I guess this is a comment on my housekeeping as much as anything else:laughing:). These Minichamps are small and easily slide out of a pocket when sitting down, and I've lost several in the past. I keep a spare around, so I was using that and had already ordered a new spare from Amazon. So now I have two spares, but when I went to put the new spare in the drawer with the rest of the pocket knife and glasses stuff, there were already two spares, so now I have three.:confused2: I think part of the reason I keep dragging my feet on building a shop is that I regularly misplace things in the three car garage, and can't imagine how I'll find anything in three times that floor space.

Touring Yellowstone Park many years ago on the motorcycle we came upon a motorhome that had hit a Bison the previous evening. Other than being dead, the Bison showed no damage, but the entire front end of the motorhome was caved in. Black bison on a black road at night, very hard to see. I've hit three deer, two on motorcycles, and every one darted onto the road from brush, leaving almost no time to react. Infinite driving skill wouldn't have made any difference to the outcome. I'm very glad there are no elk or moose around here.

Finished saddlebag mounts for the old bike yesterday, so if the wind dies down later I'll get a coat of primer on them today. In the meantime, the pushrod tube seals on the engine are dried up and cracked, so I'll get a start on pulling the heads and cylinders to replace them today.

A new Big Agnes - Q-Core Deluxe Sleeping Pad camping mattress arrived yesterday from Amazon, one that was well reviewed. I tried it out last night on the laminate covered concrete floor in the great room, and I can't say it's any better than the old one. The ol' back is sore, shoulders stiff as well. I just don't think an air mattress can provide uniform support like a bed of coil springs. Being a side sleeper puts extra pressure on shoulders and hips, and no matter how much or how little air is used, I still end up with a crooked spine and sore parts. So this one goes back in the box and I'll have another look around for something better.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend...

66°F and .17 inches rain

Pretty good day yesterday. After finishing my water filters mowed up to the cottage with the Scag. Got the new bearings on the rear roller of my flail. Still need to redo the mud bar.
Patriots are an early game today, then watch local boy Mariota.

Be safe
Have a great day

I have an old push mower i'd like to get running again. Was the best push mower i ever had, until one of our boy scouts was using it in tall grass and stalled it. Then what did he do, he flipped the mower upside down to see why it stalled. Duh.. Has never ran right since.
I bought another new push mower to replace it, and it is junk. No power at all, will barely run.
I fixed my string trimmer and use it to trim. Rubber gas hose broke inside the tank, just replaced with new tank that came with hose. Then the prime bulb cracked, bought a 10 pack, so have 9 spares.

Finished mowing yard last night, started late, was dark when i finished.

David, thanks for showing the filter pics. I like the simplicity of your first flush pipe. Can I ask, what size is the flush pipe drain hole and do you have a mesh inside to stop the exit getting clogged up with debris ?
Before we were connected to the town water system, our water for washing came from a barn roof. The intake often got filled in winter with leaves from a big oak tree and once when I cleaned it out I found a deceased owl.

For years I just relied on adjusting how much the cap was screwed in, allowing the water to seep out around the threads, but always thought I should have a better method. I drilled a 1/8 inch hole in the cap. Way too large as I observed water practically gushing out. I am awaiting 1/4 inch petcock, figuring they are adjustable.
I purposely don’t have trees close to the house minimizing chance of leaves. My problem is palm seeds. The myna birds love to drop them on the metal roof where after making much noise they roll down into the gutters. Luckily the don’t seem to impede the flow.
A dead owl or any creature would not be a good find.
