59 high of 82 later low humidity today and tomorrow before the heat comes back. Some places on the east coast may see 100 degrees several more times before fall actually arrives. The changer comes in early to mid October probably in the form of a strong east coast hurricane. Lots of rain for mid Atlantic and Applachia areas.

Texas to get something tropical around middle of September New England and Canadian border to receive come cooler weather thanks to cold fronts that never make it very far south

51 right now with a bit of fog. High is upper 70's and clear.

Mowed yesterday and did some trimming. I'll finish trimming today and mow the field. I also need to get the backhoe rigged up. No digging required, but the 'hoe settled in the soft ground we have here...even with cribbage under it to spread the load. Not sure if I'll get to that today though since I do want to get to the field and do a bit of shooting.

Drew just plant a post in crete and epoxy the turtle to the post.

that's a good idea Ed, thanks. What had been fun was moving them around, having them "travel" in different directions so the elementary
school kids in the busses could be entertained. That was the whole point anyway. This was an adult that did this, not a kid. A simple low down thief
who is likely exercising their disturbed vision of class warfare. My little farm is kind of the nicest place on the street and human nature sadly means
some of the have nots will go after the haves. Too much passing traffic for a game cam.

Some of those turtles cost over a hundred bucks a piece, really nice replicas. Well, most lasted almost two years out there and that frankly amazed me; then someone
truly got their number and thieving hands reached out. And they came back for the last of the good ones... Hey, if they are going to throw food and beer cans on my roadside, I guess the higher performing dirtbags have upped their game. Lot of meth being used and sold around here; no surprise there is theft going on. My house, however, is covered by three cameras recording all the time, writing over once a month. So I'm not worried about the house, but the end of the lane sure seems to be fair game.

I like to think kindly towards folks but my turtle thieves are sure an exception.
And that's all the mental energy they are worth, onward to better things.

buppies, congrats on the sale

Thanks Drew really did not want to sell it but just sitting there going downhill from lack of use is just plain dumb on my part. Might use the money to finish the inside of my pole building or add 12 more feet in length or width as the case may be.

When we first moved to the mountains the previous owners left a canoe which we used on our pond until one Saturday somebody wanted it more than we did. Crossed the fence walked 1000 feet to where it was and took it. Last Christmas someone stole two wreaths we had on our gate.

My parents when they lived in a large lot neighborhood had problems with their mail box getting destroyed almost weekly so we being steel fabricators by trade had the shop build one out of 1/4 in steel plate the kind that rusts slightly so it never needs painted. That lasted about 2 months until some gentlemen decided to run it over. The mail box survived the car not so much. Police woke my father up at 2:00AM to let him know what happened charged them with reckless driving and their insurance replanted the post. It was encased in concrete three foot deep. Wish when I sold the house I would have kept it

Buppies, many folks around here have gone to steel plate mailboxes...we've had ours knocked over or banged up a few times...none in the last few years until last month - I'm pretty sure a piece of farm machinery hit it...it was day time, and discovered soon after some big hay hauling equipment passed by. Hard to understand someone stealing a canoe by carrying it over 300 yards and a fence. Maybe they got a hernia doing it...karma.

Wanted Dead or Alive...Turtle Thief.

The TBN bus has picked up the NC and VA hungry members and is heading to Frederick, MD for cookout.

RS, good to read you posting again...missed your many project updates.

Mostly, are brakes on road bikes good enough to slow a bike down going that fast without a lot of fade? Sure would not want to wipe out at that speed. Would this be considered "extreme biking"?

On a road bike like that the brakes are usually rim brakes and are effective although at the speed that guy's going it would take a while. I have found that the hydraulic disk brakes on my mountain bike will put me over the handlebars very quickly (get that; hydraulic disk brakes on a pushbike) I could never get anywhere near the speed he is traveling at.
