Ed, would a base out of angle or square tubing make a good first project for your new welder ?

I thought about that too, Don. But when I started looking at commercially available bases, most had lock downs, and brackets that meant that the tool would only be lifted a half inch or so off the floor. By the time I'd bought the steel and casters, I would have been most of the way to one of the store bought bases. Ended up with two designs from HTC, purchased through Amazon. One is good for 500 lbs., the other for somewhat less, but had I to do it over again I'd just use the heavy duty one for everything. About $65 with free Prime shipping.

Got about 2/3 of the yard mowed tonight. First mowing in a month. Last weeks rain sure greened it back up.
Had some sightseers, but picture won't load. For some reason pictures will load to 90% then stop.

Good evening all. 65F this morning, breeze came up early, made it to 85F clear skies all day. Had to take both vehicles in for hail damage estimate from hail storm earlier this year. Mowed patch of lawn over the septic system, nothing else has grown. Got a 1.5 hour nap today, I think that is about an all time high. Bike shop run and weedeat tomorrow:)

Got wireless plan with ATT changed to the no overages deal first thing this morning ... back-dated to September .

Angles for the blade carriers on the LPGS:

First pass with the needle scaler:

Second pass:

IMG_0807.jpg

Got the flat and the angles wire brushed and hit one side with the first coat of muriatic acid. The residual paint seems pretty tough ... will see what they look like in the morning, after leaving the acid on all night.

I had taken the grapple off and put the pallet forks on to move the steel down to the house ... so I'd have water to rinse the acid off.

After that, I dropped the forks off up at the shop to get some measurement for the tabs so it would be mountable on the 3PH.

I happened to look at the left front of the tractor-side SSQA after I parked it and this is what I saw ...:

IMG_0809.jpg

The right side wasn't cracked quite as bad:

IMG_0811.jpg

The plate steel is only 1/4" (Titan) ... probably should be thicker ... 5/16" or 3/8". Will have to look at beefing them up when I pull the SSQA off to straighten it.

At any rate, it sucks ... another thing to fix ... :(

nice dinner out with inlaws. Every time I look at weather, hurricane increases possibility of coming inland in FL and NC. Sure am glad I'm two hours from the coast, but could get messy. One of my friends I met with today has a new home in Delray Beach in Florida and he is hoping his hurricane proof windows really are. The worst part of this is the hype as the media tries to alert the clueless and of course sell more advertising. A week from today the hurricane should be a memory. And hopefully not a bad one.

Not supposed to impact NC until Friday, and I hope to be home by noon or 1pm on Thursday. Time to strap the rv down and windproof my place. Water I can't do much about except for building a temporary dike around the Generac. Gas line won't stretch to put it up on blocks, not without the gas company coming out. So I've been thinking what is in my barn that will hold back water?
Maybe I need to buy some sand bags, old reliable. And put an electric sump pump inside the dike. Going to put my portable gen up on rear deck, just in case. Belt and suspenders. They got two feet of surface water here in the last major hurricane so that's my goal, to get a two foot dike built. I do believe the new property water drainage ditches I put in will help, but if the area it drains to is flooded, it all becomes a big lake. And I sold my boat.

...
All through that I'd been watching as the western sky darkened, and during the last bit I could hear thunder as I rubbed out the hand glaze. So I got things put away and the van rolled back into the garage, and poured myself a couple fingers of Bourbon to enjoy while I watched the rain and lightning come down. It all started off gently enough ...

I also enjoy a good storm, at least from inside.
We seem to have dodged most of them again this year. Your writing brought that one to our house, even before I got to the pictures.

For those of you facing the prospect of a hurricane coming your way, that must be a little too much to be enjoyable. Take care.

Good morning. We have the wind swinging round and coming at us from the east today. It must be trying another trick to get the leaves off the trees. So far they are being stubborn and refusing to change color, let alone drop.

Walking around fields, two days are never the same. Sometimes it is subtle little things. On others ...

From a distance I could see the sheep behaving strangely. As I got closer it was clearer to make out that something was upsetting them. They were acting as if they wanted to run away, but they couldn't because they were being drawn towards a strange alien life form that was slightly pinker in colour than RNG's uncooked steak. It was slowly making it's way through the long grass. Suddenly it made it's move. It certainly didn't look as friendly as one of Drew's tractor driving aliens as it lunged towards them, then it is must have realised I was there and tried to escape down the hillside. Without regard to my own safety, I rushed over and got hold of it, pinning it down on the ground. It's bloated body wheezed and crumpled under my weight. Even in it's dying moments, it still exerted an almost hypnotic effect on the ewes...

Now I know you lot never believe a thing I say unless there is picture proof, so here it is.

54 going to 74.

I should be heading out to a tree stand, but instead decided that some hurricane prep is in order. The weather guys just updated the hurricane map and forecast.

RNG, that was some kind of storm you got.

Eric, did you lay that thing out in the form of a question mark??? or is that to be part of the mystery?

61 high of 74 today delightful fall weather. The hurricane is the changer for fall and winter that has been spoken of in the past. Kinda of interesting to watch the models fight among each other to see which one is right. The Euro or the American model a real tug of war. It would appear from what little I know NC will be the battle zone and Friday Saturday looks to be the day. All in its path be safe lots of rain and wind on areas that have already had too much

Good morning all, 52 this morning with am fog going to 71 and drizzle tonight. Have to go to the grocery this morning, didn't make it yesterday. Hope to get to Lowes and get the rest of the 2x4's I need for the ceiling framing in the shop. Just have a little more and then the wiring.

Don We have thought of making the almond milk but our boy drinks about 4 glasses a day + sometimes as many as 4 bowls of cereal so it would be a full time job. Will pick up 6 or 8 1/2 gal's if they have it.

Eric I can see that your sheep had questions about the question mark.
I wanted to weld my own as well but my wise wife asked if it was the best use of time with all we have to do. Shop, pantry, still moving in, our boy stressed, ecterta........ So I will get to play with my new toy on another project, later.

RNG Your second pic looks like the fire is at it again, Glad you made it through the storm without to much damage.

Daugen Sounds like you need to go ahead and raise the big generator and get it over with as soon as Mathew finishes making a mess. Hope you come through with no damage.

Toppop and all in the sights of Mathew. Be careful and Prayers sent.

Have a great day, Ed

Need to pour second cup of coffee. 52° with dense fog this morning. Heading to 71° with sun after fog fades away. Went out to barn to check on oil change supplies. Dew is so heavy it looks like it rained several inches overnight. Going to keep me from getting oil changed today. Yesterday everything was wet into mid afternoon. Oh well it will not hurt to wait a another day.
Eric, thumbnail view looked like someone painted one of your sheep pink. Glad you were able to tackle the alien.
All on East Coast, if you listen to the hurricane hype you would think it has already hit. Hope all it is is hype. In a way i like the hype. It takes away from all the political S--T.
Good Morning All.

Sense I do not look at the news on TV only read what interests me I get to miss the crap. The hype on the hurricane is unreal even in written form

and soon we will have the foolish reporters standing up in the wind and rain saying wow this is something....

Short of putting some outside furniture away or tying it down, not much I can do to prepare.

sitting in rv dealer parking lot waiting for them to open. they seem to be moving now.

I'm hoping the storm stays offshore. My SIL and BIL live in Savannah. Batten the hatches just in case.

Waiting on my coffee. Time to get the kids out to the bus.

Eric, what a random thing to drive the sheep nuts. Hope they chilled after that.

Have a great day y'all!
