Good morning!!!!

61 this morning and headed to 69 today. A chance of afternoon showers.

As far as plans for today. They're few. Check chickens and cows. We've got 8 calves on the ground. Still waiting on 4. Then we have plans for a grocery shopping trip. Have had some people recommend a diet change for oldest son to see if that helps him. Although he has started jabbering more since preschool started, and showing some imaginative playing. He sits every night at the fridge with a small Coca Cola bottle magnet and "glues" Mickey Mouse magnets to the fridge. Hey it beats stuffing them in the air vents. :).

Growing up we moved into an old farm house. The doors weren't wide enough for furniture to fit. So dad used a chain saw to widen them. After about three chains he decided that a reciprocating saw would be money well spent.

60F and mostly cloudy @ 10:30 with occasional peeks of sunshine ... rain has mostly moved out at this point, but we could still get a shower at some point.

Got a new field ordered for the Milwaukee angle grinder yesterday, should have it by Tuesday or Wednesday of this coming week. Hopefully that will get rid of the sparking.

Built a pickaroon/hookaroon out of an old axe head that was cracked, and a 36" axe handle that was kinda dicey.

Spent most of the day cleaning up the shop tho' ... kinda depressing, in that it seems the mess just never goes away. Probably more of the same today.

Also started cutting the tabs for the 3PH attachment for the pallet forks.

Periodic rain showers, supposed to clear up later today.
Don't gave a rain guage, i buy them, then forget about them and winter breaks them.
HS team won 27-0. I was expecting a close game.
Costco has an accurite weather station. Are they any good? I see several talk about davis.

Good Morning! 61F @ 10:00AM. Abundant sunshine. High 73F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.

I take it you enjoy the use of a supressor (what we Yanks call a silencer), Eric? Is it ironic that it is nearly impossible to obtain a license for one here in gun hating Kalifornia while in heavily regulated Great Britain they are available to qualified individuals?

I'm amazed at the non-intuitive and poorly labeled interfaces on many consumer goods, Don, but finding them on safety gear is inexcusable.

I watched a video on Facebook yesterday where a young man baited a fake IRS caller who later admitted to being a radical Islamic terrorist (the IRS scammer that is). The kid kept the scammer busy for over half an hour by faking confusion and purposely mis-hearing things the scammer said. Then he pretended to be at a Target store buying gift cards, and had a field day misreading the numbers on them back to the scammer. It was hilarious!

Gotta break eggs to make an omelette, RS. One of the laws of thermodynamics is that entropy is always increased by any activity. So even though the net result might be a nice root grapple, there'll always be a bigger mess to clean up!

A Saturday birthday party for Finnly! Don't git much better'n that!

Probably the best feedback on any weather station, Farmer, will come from reading reviews on Amazon.com. They all eventually break, so pay attention to what the company does to get them up and running again.

Randy hasn't checked in yet this morning. Hope everything's OK...

Finished pulling off the rest of the masking tape and paper from the van yesterday and ended up with an over full 30 gal. trash bag of the stuff. Maybe instead of shoving it into the trash can I should stuff it down into the bottom of the next brush pile; the plastic will keep it dry and all that paint will burn like crazy!

Then out came the ladder, bucket, sandpaper and block to start on the van. I managed to work almost all the way around the roof above the drip rails, but only got to 800 grit. Most of that time was taken smoothing down drips and runs in the clear, though I did find one drip in the basecoat that will be forever on display because trying to fix it would make a bigger blemish than just leaving it alone. My neighbor/bodyman suggested I take a small area all the way through the 800, 1200, rubbing compound, swirl mark remover, hand glaze process, to I picked part of the front roof that will stay out of site under the luggage rack. finished it in about an hour, a 1'x2' area, just in time for the clouds to come out and prevent me from making any kind of judgement as to how well it came out. The sun's back out this morning so that'll be first thing to do.

Finished the day with a nice fresh salad and some home made chili, and caught a pretty nice sunset as the clouds broke up.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Went out this morning and got a snow blower. It's a Husqvarna St 230P. 30" wide with power steering and heated handles. I forget the HP but I thought at the time it would be fine. Had to buy wiper blades because of the heavy mist that was falling this morning. Trying to be very quiet today as our boy is stressed.

Happy birthday Finnly!!!!!!!!!

There have been many threads on TBN about accuracy and maintainability of different inexpensive weather stations and it keeps cropping up that most are generally only good for a few years.

Accurate weather stations are best maintained by fanatics. I bought a $5 rain gauge and a $5 thermometer and correlated it with the nearest weather underground station. The fanatic collects the data, keeps the statistics, maintains the equipment.

Good afternoon all. weather last 2 days has been outstanding 60F this morning calm and clear. Nice bike ride this morning, got van back together yesterday, so not sure of what to get into this afternoon.

The Gods of Route 95 were kind and no bad accidents, got up here in a surprisingly quick 8 1/2 hours, and did not go over 65. Got into my site, a local friend drove over and helped me with backing up; lots of expensive infrastructure one does not want to back into, like power poles, water bibs, sewer pipes, etc. Very odd parallel parking site, never seen one like this before. Very much like a face dock for boating. Pretty tight in here, but it worked. This is Ram Alley, all three of us in a row are pulling with Dodge Rams. I still call it a Dodge...no matter what FCA marketing wants.

I was trying to go on 695 over the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, but somehow despite following the signs I wound up on 895 going through the tunnel. I didn't think propane bottles were supposed to be in there but they took my money with a smile. Almost 70 dollars in tolls to go 450 miles. One toll was 24 bucks. wow, this is serious money and I doubt it's going to highway preservation.

Despite a dinner invite I decided to go nowhere tonight, just relax from this drive, maybe watch a movie.
I brought some good food with me so I'll make a nice dinner here.
up early tomorrow

hopefully all this rain will quiet down now and we can dry out on the East Coast and get some work done.
My lawn and fields were swamps when I left. I'm told some light showers tonight locally.
Despite being in a suburban area, very little traffic noise here. Very quiet neighborhood, all good. 55+ RV retirement community, plus some spaces for visitors, like me.

You all have a great weekend.
I could use a hurricane report from our resident experts.
When and where? Meaning...am I going to have to beat it home a day early. Driving in heavy rain today was not fun. Trying to avoid that.

ya know, it's Saturday afternoon, I got the rig here in one piece, I think I've earned that ice cold beer in the fridge.
Just one, with some nuts.
Life is good.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a fanatic, but there are things I do around here that are very weather dependent and having accurate temperature, humidity, wind, and rain data for my location is critical. As in costing several thousand dollars and lots of hours if I get caught by the wrong conditions. By all means, if all you need is rain and temperature, and don't mind fooling around emptying rain gauges, a thermometer and hardware store gauge will probably work just fine for you. And if you're fortunate to have a Wunderground station near you, so much the better; you can ride their coat tails and save a nice chunk of change.

But if you do decide to take the plunge, setting up the station isn't difficult, and even hooking it up to a computer and sending the data to Wunderground or other Internet site isn't all that hard if you can follow directions. Try searching TBN for "Davis weather" or "Accurite" and you'll get lots of people sharing their experiences. I started with a Davis VantageVue, their economy model, and found it quite convenient to have good weather info at my fingertips. It also saved me a few missteps that could have turned out to be costly and time consuming. So when the outside temperature sensor became intermittent, I replaced it with one of Davis' top of the line models, and didn't think twice about the cost. My only regret is that I didn't buy the best one at the start, but hindsight is always 20/20.

Wngspread, I'm right there, near Salisbury. We are in pretty good shape, most of the property is above water! LOL we are actually near the top of a ridge, but our lower neighbor has built a berm on county access property, it's about to get two 4" tiles to prevent this next time. Sorry if it makes his property a little wetter.
The roads are a mess, but the crews are working fast.

Thanks all for the concern!

Had our last car show today, in the mist and rain, it was Wings & Wheels, but due to a 300' ceiling, no wings, and only 148 wheels (37) cars, normal is 350 cars.

RNG - It seems almost anything you take on is done to a level showing true dedication to detail. If missing past weather data costs several thousands dollars and lots of hours then it seems very important to know what the weather is GOING to be. However it stories like yours of the entry level models failing that spawned my distrust in "consumer" models.

Having worked with Army Topo for 37 years and interfacing closely with the SWO's (Staff Weather Officer) for about 3 decades I'm constantly amazed that no company has come up with a reliable box that can record accurate weather data (temp, precip, wind, solar), transmit it wirelessly and be sold for $100 or less.

But it's dedicated people like you that spend $$$$ on Davis' top of the line models that let people like me look at the computer and have all the stats done for free.

In buckeyefarmer's case there are a LOT of reporting stations in Maryland.wunderground-md.JPG

47 and rain right now...looks like rain most of the weekend. That would put a hold on some outdoor activities, but we do need the rain, so it's a worthy sacrifice.
Heading in to work to help on inventory....hope we're done by noonish.

Went fast and well! I was done by about 1100, boss just texted me and said it was all done by 1159!
Yippee!

I don't know what Davis' sales figures are, but I can almost guarantee they aren't in the numbers sufficient to give them much economy of scale. So their development costs for the electronics and sensor technologies are spread over a relatively small number of sales, and that has the effect of increasing the costs substantially. Same goes for the manufacturing; injection molds for the plastic parts are very expensive, as are the custom boards and chips for the electronics. I suppose it's only a matter of time before some clever company off shore clones the Davis stuff, but they'll have to do it with the reliability of a Toyota to satisfy the needs of even the serious hobbyists, let alone professionals. Until then, it's a game of you-get-what-you-pay-for, and even then it's a bit of a guessing game with respect to reliability.

I have an accurite weather station. It does ok. Super hot days I subtract about 10 degrees. Think I need to clean the fans according to Don. Installed about 18 months ago. I like it enough the next one will be a Davis. I had the same trouble with rain gauges as you.

Happy birthday Finnly.

went to bed early, up early...
Hmmm, now that hurricane is a Cat 4 and maybe a Cat 5. Hopefully will swing out into the Atlantic.

Not much sound insulation in this trailer. Things quieted down but rv next to internal road where all the guys with their diesel trucks go rumbling by, slowly, but once they all came back from dinner or wherever they went, quiet returned, until midnight. Then some very late arriver in a big diesel motorhome parked thirty feet away, and I got to hear that for awhile, then peace and quiet.

off early this morning to breakfast with old friends, then we leave for Meeting/church, and then lunch with other friends. Pretty much booked while I'm up here, which is the whole point, seeing friends again.
Time to make a pot of coffee.
