Good chilly morning all. 14F sunny and the wind has finally died. Forecast for 35F sunny and light wind. We are running about 20F below normal, and Saturday will be a very early snowfall. should be on the fringe 1-2 inches at this point. Flue guy did show yesterday and after a cleaning and inspection said no major problems and had first fire last night :). Firewood and fridge shopping on the agenda today and outside chance for bike ride.

Thanks Drew, That is the one thing about living on the side of a mountain, you never know what you'll find. Tough during winter months and is why we head south.

Awesoome

Good Morning. 1045, sunny, 47F with 43% humidity. Forecast high of 55F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 32F tonight. It was 35F at 0600 when I rolled over the first time.

The comments on Florida cold are spot on. Back when we had cows and I was hauling hay on the old 3930 in cold weather, I would be so bundled up I could hardly turn the steering wheel. I think it is the high humidity that makes it so cold. Sister lived in Colorado Springs for almost 30 years, and she said it was never as cold with 6 feet of snow on the ground out there as it was here. But when we had a really cold snap on the way, we would put several rolls of hay in little electric fence corrals, letting the cows into them one at a time. Also we never had enough antifreeze in the tractor tires, so we had to wait for the warmest part of the day to risk using the tractor.

I have another wedding this weekend, so I'll be going in early today. I think there is also some kind of party tonight. If I don't have a set/cleanup for the event, I don't really pay attention to what is going on, just what time I have to be there.

Nice picture Pixguy.

Drew, that new mower is mighty fine. Make sure you wax it before putting it up for the winter:D

Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

Snowed early this am, but it didn't stick. I am going out to get gas for the blower in a bit. Just in case...

My dogs were real happy to run around today, they seem to like cool weather.

22 right now and a high of 35 today...after another cup of coffee, I think I'll light off the wood stove.
The Zero turn needs to be cleaned and the battery pulled for winter...that's a couple chores. I also need to get the tractor out for greasing and pin the anti-sway links for the snow blower.
I bought some new wood grip panels for my Ruger Vaquero (.357 Magnum, 5.5" barrel). I got a really good deal on the pistol a few years ago...only put a few rounds through it. If the wood grips come in today, I'll swap out the stock grips and, if time allows, get some rounds through it today.

Added: We did get a light dusting of snow last night...

Poured first cup of coffee. 22° with light snow this morning. Heading to 32° with some sun. Got the trench filled in. What a mess. Frozen clumps of clay. Will need to go back in spring and level it out. Going to grease tractor and FEL. Then install Snow Blade. That finishes off all my fall projects.
Good Morning All.

29F and cloudy @ 06:00 ...

Supposed to be sunny with a high of 36F today ... so I might give getting something done outside today a shot. Still have more a lot more leaves to pick up around the barn, and the yard could be run over again, given that the oak leaves are continuing to come down.

Went down to Cross Truck Equipment and picked up 2' feet of 6" tube to extend the wood chipper discharge chute and snagged a couple of 3/8" shackles and 1/4" spring lock pins for some parking stands while I was there ... also grabbed a can of Fluid Film. This will be the 1st time I've ever tried this "miracle fluid" ... I hear everyone talking about it, so I figured I better check it out and get with the program.

And I ordered the flanges (which will allow the chute to rotate 360 degrees) from McMaster (along with a 24" x 24" piece of expanded metal for the brush guard on the Kubota) ... they should be here Monday, if not today.

Raising the discharge chute by 2' should allow me to shoot chips into the dump cart ... although I may have to hinge the chute so it can be lowered to get it inside the shop, since the overhead door is only 7' tall.

Replaced all the funky Chicom grease fittings on the chipper yesterday and got the feed roller pulled along with cutting off the handle that raises it. Looks like it will need bent a little to line up with where I intend to place it. Experimented a little with sharpening the teeth on the feed roller ... tried using my little 3" air-driven cut-off tool ... wasn't happy with how that turned out ... think they are going to have to filed by hand with a triangular file.

Did a bunch of clean up in the shop including the main workbench ... probably can now actually be used to work on something ... lol ...

Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.

rswyan forget to fill bird feeder yesterday wife said birds were flipping me off naughty me
LOL ... just wait until Mrs. Red Bird gets ahold of ya ...

They have been swarming around the feeders here since I filled them ... we've been getting a dozen or more at any given time hitting the two Nyjer feeders and the suet cage that is just outside the living room window ... with usually a few more waiting in the wings for a spot ...

The day after I filled the two tube feeders with black oil sunflower seed they were already half empty.

21 this morning high of 43 later. Yesterday was brutal sense we were not used to the cold but no snow just windy and never got above 36.

If wind doesn't blow time to get up leaves

rswyan some days have to fill feeder every day others every other day. Ran a bluejay off this morning as they keep the small birds away

Interesting ...

We've got bluejays here ... quite a few of them in fact ... and I mean right around the house.

But for some reason or another they don't seem to come to the feeders all that much ... at least that I've noticed. Of course, other than the suet cages, there's only one feeder that they could realistically use ...

Good morning, temperature here is the same as Roy's and Ron's, 22F high in the same area as well, 34F. No wind to speak of here this morning so the temp doesn't feel that bad.

A smoldering 40* this morning, headed to 52. Cloudy with a chance of rain. Spending the morning indoors teaching a class (Volunteer work with high school students). Will try to get some outdoor work in this afternoon, but with everything going dormant, not too much to do. Plus with the chance of rain, my outdoor options may be limited by nature. Same outlook for tomorrow, so the weekend may be a lost cause.
