Ballast filling tires

So do you fill them until water is all you are getting from the bleeder valve? With the valve at the top of the wheel I imagine this leaves very little room for air. Thanks.

The manuals call for a 75% fill,. which is about where the valve stem will be when it is at 12 o'clock to not let any water out just air out when you remove the water fill valve. In other words when water stops coming out, or is more air than water then that is about right. So then screw valve stem back in and pressurize to the recommended tire pressure per the manual. Or to suit.

I had my valve stem at the 10 O'Clock or 2 O'Clock position when I filled them.
But you do want them at the 12 O'Cock position when airing up or routinely checking tire pressure...

The NAPA adapter is the one I used. Part #90-234. Think I paid $16.99.

What you have will work fine, mine was similar. I used the RV antifreez, non toxic and we can get to -15F here at times so need freeze protection. I used a simple drill pump and some garden hose. Burp often with the drill pump as it wont pump into much of a head of pressure. Air pressure builds up as the fluid goes in, due to reduced volume in the tire for air. Probably not much of a problem with the water supply pressure.

James,

My dealer used the RV antifreeze to fill mine. His argument was it is potable, so even if it does leak someday, it is not poison.

Seemed like a good idea to me:D

Be well,
David

i like to add non toxic rv antifreeze to mine. adds corrosion protection.. etc.

Excuse the ignorance soundguy. What type of antifreeze is non toxic?

RV anti-freeze is non-toxic. it is Propylene Glycol. Not Ethylene Glycol. It is red/pink and looks like strawberry soda. I didn't try drinking any tho.:)
a lot of food/cosmetic items have Propylene Glycol in them is some amount. When we say RV anti-freeze, we don't mean the anti-freeze in an RV's radiator, we mean the anti-freeze that is used to winterize the water systems in the RV.

My dealer mixed in windshield washer fluid in my tires..not sure of the mix ratio.

Does rv anti-freeze add any corrosion protection over plain water, or is it just to keep it from freezing in the winter? If I were to add anti-freeze, what mix ratio should I shoot for?
