FELLING TREE

Aha... well of course the larger the better. A bare minimum for a decent print would be 5mpx. Anything 8 or above would be good to go.

Heck, its a big continent so its gotta have geographical differences... Like sometimes you'll see a cactus and sometimes you'll see a Russel's viper. When are you expecting those ATM's? We just got phones where I am.

Thanks DC

I have used a rope attached as high in the tree as I can throw it to persuade tree to fall in direction of original lean. Rope is tensioned by come-a-long attached to another tree. Does anyone else do this?? Could it increase chance of kickback??

I have used a come along plenty of times. Does it increase the chance of kick back or barber chairing? Yes it does. When you tension a tree like the bow on a bow and arrow. I would be more worried if you had a big arc in the tree. Usually we will pull on the tree until we see the tree start to move in the right direction about 1'-2' if it is a mid to large sized tree. We will put more tension if it has a lean to it in a direction we don't want it to fall.

Stem kickback is another reason why the slope of the notch should point down. Alledgedly there is less chance of the stem slipping back up an incline as opposed to a horizontal surface of a notch where its diagonal cut is on top instead of the bottom. It also helps to kick a stem forward as it breaks from the hinge if you use a bottom diagonal notch cut. I guess it works that way. Haven't experienced many stem kickbacks cutting in this fashion.

Arrow!
That's awesome! I've cut trees with a "swedish notch" for years. The hinge hangs on a lot longer and controls the tree nearly all the way down. I guess it helps to not have the tree kick back either! :D
