How do I create a avatar from a picture? I see quite a few that are from nice photos... clear and appear to larger than what it states for 120x120 pixels or 19.5k size. When I try to resize a photo and upload it is rejected.

any advice would be appreciated.

Can you post the photo here? Sometimes if you are "working" on a photo, say to resize it, if you don't close the program that you are using... it's "locked" and can not be uploaded. Just a guess...

I use infanview to resize my pictures, it is a fee download. Make sure to download the plug ins when downloading. This makes resizing pictures for the web very easy.

IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide

Here is a link on a how to post pictures I did on another forum. Page two deals with the resizing issue.

Then in the left hand colum, select "Edit Avatar"

I also use Irfanview. Resize the pic and then save it. Then do what yooper said.

Gee, what ever happened to Microsoft Paint? I read all over where folks want to know how to resize pictures. The answer always seems to be the same, "Get Anobe PhotoBlob 9.6 or some other software." I assume a high percentage of users still are with Windows. MS Paint is fine for this type of stuff.

I have used paint for this, but Infanview I found easier to use. :)

MS Paint works well, but IRFanview has oodles more options.

I never had one and then I read this and gave it a try ... First time and it was done. I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Took longer to find a picture to use!!!

Thanks for help everyone! As you can see I finally figured it out. I ended up using MSOffice Picture Manager to resize since I already had that on my computer.

One mistake I had was that when I loaded my file, it showed the "current avatar" in the edit form window. Then for some crazy reason I felt I needed to hit upload again... which had nothing selected in the file list. This ofcourse told me that the upload was unsuccessful. Silly me! :mur:
