So you went with Miller blue, nice, now you should put some Miller white on there somewhere topped of with a Miller sticker.

Look again, the wheels are already white (but only 'cause they CAME that way  )

The rest of the frame pieces will get more of the (close enough) Miller blue, then the lead hangers and rear caster mounts will be black (probably satin, maybe gloss, need to check "inventory" :D )

By the time the REST of the parts are cured it'll be OK to put the self-stick EPDM weather stripping around the welder's cradle, then I'll need to move some stuff so I can get the brush bucket (AKA "roof frame building stand") in under the small container's roof extension and start building the "porch roof" as previously mentioned...

The MM211 will see some more action during THAT phase - too far away from "smooth rolling floors" to wanna move the MM252 that far on its "NON-Off-Road" running gear, so the new cart will see action in it's "short distance off-road hand truck" mode...

For those just tuning in, most of my "quasi-esoteric Mad Scientist Technical Terms" have already been explained earlier in this thread (that's my story, anyway )... Steve

Moved the drying rack into a corner of the living room next to the stove, couple days to cure while I rearrange a couple things so I can start on the "porch roof" part of the container - if it gets windy again I'll probly fab up a couple welding screens I've been meaning to do - not fun tryin' to MIG when all your gas "went thataway"... "Moved the drying rack into a corner of the living room next to the stove,"<<<<<<<<<<<If I'd move my painted stuff in the living room, my wife would take the broom at me. I did take another look at the cart, those white wheel didn't stick out enough at the first look, guess your all Millered up now and black goes with just about anything.

My wife made the mistake about 30 years ago of tellin' me that one of the reasons she married me was 'cause I had my own leatherworking tools  - you woulda had to know her family to know just how telling that was - every dang one of 'em (except her) thought you couldn't do ANYTHING unless you had a patch on your coveralls that said "tv repairman", "truck driver", "backhoe operator", "nose blower" - I came from parents that thought the ONLY thing you COULDN'T do was either 'cause you hadn't LEARNED how to yet, or wuz just bein' LAZY - To this day, NONE of her family that's still alive knows how to handle me.

Got a couple more loose pieces to put back on the cart, then weatherstrip on the welder cradle - should have more pics later tonite... Steve

Well, I've rattled on about this stuff probably enough that more bla bla bla isn't necessary - so I'll just upload the new pics in between bites of supper -

Well, as you can see the paint I got doesn't exactly match miller "blue" - looks to me like theirs is more of a robin's egg blue - Still, no biggie. I decided NOT to put the bottle back in til I find some black rubber ribbed mat, and probably some aluminum or stainless angle for the front opening, and also for the rear where the bottle slides in.

That's it for now, next I need to move some stuff around to make room for the "porch roof" build... Steve

It's further back in the garage ATM - you probably missed back on the beginning; the 252 is gonna stay in the garage and get used anywhere "local" and/or BIG - the 211 will live in the container and get used anywhere else (including the bridge crane build). Those options are the point of this cart being "multi-movable" - My 8kw genny will run it (the MM211) AND the small compressor no prob, and I'll put some "stick on a roll" in the 211 if/when I get to the massive fence re-do (just under 3000 feet of 4' field fencing with 3" square tube H braces every 330 feet, welded in the field -

Don't hold yer breath on THAT project, I'll need to build some sort of 3ph mounted "mini-crane" for my air-powered post driver, and a loader-mounted fence unroller/stretcher for the backhoe. Hopefully I'll still be able to man-handle my Earthquake auger by then :confused3: - Probly be at least next week before that happens  ...Steve

That cart is looking great, you might even win an Oscar in the weld cart category, as I look at your cart I noticed the ground clamp and it reminded me that I have to order one for my 211 Miller, the spring has sprung on mind.

Bridge crane, mini crane, big crane, bird crane, I forgot are we still building something for crane?

Thanks; I've looked at probably hundreds of carts at various times, and I've NEVER seen one that's similar to this one - a couple that were "sorta" off-road, maybe one or two with bigger wheels, don't remember ANY that had ALL the modes of transport this one does (moral of this story - don't EVER let a CRAZY man get hold of a welder )

Ground clamps - I put these on ALL my machines, can't stand the cheesy little stamped steel jobs they all come with these days -

4 Amp Welding Ground Clamp

Those are built better than the factory crap and probably cost less too...

Crane?? What crane? We don' need no steenking crane :D Actually, I DID warn ya - from post #1 - "it's gonna get fairly involved and this'll keep ALL my screw-ups in one place" - Betcha thought I wuz kiddin' din'cha??!?

Actually, I did make a little cleanup progress today, but (speaking of CRANES - there's one of these

Telescoping Gantry Crane - 1 Ton

sittin' on the floor (still in the box) right where I need to fab the "porch roof" for the container (remember that ?) sooo, since there's only ONE place that crane (there's that word again :D) can go, and that's straddling the place I'll be fabbing the porch roof - BUT..... before I can do THAT, I need to cut the "extra" 12' of I-beam off the OTHER crane (the one that's still in "kit" form in the container) so I can make the HF crane stretch far enough to straddle the area under the red roofed 20' container (AND leave room for my backhoe between the posts) - because STOCK, the HF crane is only 94" between posts and I'll need at least a FOOT more than that, 11 foot would be even better.

Sooo, the plan is to duplicate the beam mounts from the HF crane (only thicker) and MY I-beams are .33" wider and an inch taller (slightly heavier web too) than the HF one, calculations show it'll STILL be good for at least a ton but with almost 4 feet wider span -

I gotta stop now, this is givin' me a "pain"ium in the CRANE-ium" :D:D:D ... Steve (No crazy people were harmed during the making of this statement - we're ALREADY crazy, remember??!?) (No such guarantee for SANE people tho, if that's YOU, stop reading IMMEDIATELY. Oops, too late...)

Ha, I had one of those on my xmas wish list for two years but I guess that kind of stuff doesn't catch the eye of my family. Let alone the fact they probably have no clue what it is! I'm thinking, heck... here is a cheap gift idea that I will use and really appreciate. At least I didn't get boxer underwear from my daughter this year... she's the one that got me noise canceling earmuffs so I can't complain. :D

My daughter doesn't make a lot, single mom, etc - so I give her a list of artists like Jeff Lorber, Dan Siegel, Rick Braun, Boney James, Diana Krall, Doc Brown, Stanley Jordan, Anita Baker, etc, and which albums I don't have yet - she can pick from those, usually a couple - I don't play much lately, so I moved the nearfields and 200 watt sub into the living room, powered by a 115 w/ch Denon - matches the 60" Panasonic tv pretty well, set the Denon for "jazz club" and it's like you're there (minus all the smoke, and a-holes talking over the music ) - all 5 channels are bigger than some people's subs, plus Titanium dome tweeters don't miss out on sibilants so you can actually UNDERSTAND the dialog in movies - car crashes and explosions are FELT as well as heard.

When I get back into doing more in the studio, I'll probably just upgrade it and leave the Tannoys where they are :D

But for shop (and house) stuff, Mrs. Bukit and I just get what we want for ourselves, and if it's fairly "big ticket" we sing happy birthday, merry Christmas, Marvelous Memorial Day, whatever's closest  - that way, NEITHER of us is too disappointed :D ...Steve

Oh, and whether you get a better ground clamp or not, get one of these

Amazon.com: BRAIDED GROUND STRAP, 12", dune buggy vw baja bug: Automotive

I keep whatever ground spot cleaned up, and double this strap and put it between the WIRED side of the clamp and the CLEAN surface - it's one of Jody's tricks I modified a bit. The braid stays together better than a short chunk of stripped welding cable... Steve

/ Container Weld Shop build - #134
Thanks for the clamp tip but since Kris Kringle raise havoc with my credit card this past year I went with a $8.00 300 amp clamp for now, 400 seems like over kill for a small 211 Miller. The picture of how you use that braided cable came through a little blurry, might be due to a cranium on the brainium which can lead to a hocus pocus out of focus picture.

If some day in the not to distant future in a galaxsy far far away you start a bird crane reconstruction and start a new thread on it, give a cranium heads up so I get the 411.

Remember, 400 amp is Harbor Freight's rating - I figger it's at LEAST 200 amps (maybe ) - but the REAL reason isn't amperage, but OPENING SIZE - I use a LOT of 2" square tube, and that clamp's spring barely allows it to open to 2" -

As to the "blurry" (AKA non-existent) pic, maybe this one's better - DSCN3059.JPG -

The idea is to let the braid (or a loose un-insulated piece of weld lead) fill in any voids in the connection between clamp and work (or table, if that's what you ground to) - plus, if I'm using the braid (see pic) I also make sure the half of the clamp that the WIRE attaches to, is on the BRAID side (just in case the clamp hinge is wonky)

BTW, your $8 clamp would also benefit from this, maybe more - here's the original version

A Better Mig Welding Ground Clamp

(about the middle of that page)

Crane-ius maximus - if the word "crane" creeps into anything I post, I'll try to keep it right here so ya know where to look ... Steve

"somehow attaching the braided strip to the clamp." - Technically, I AM Mark - just not PERMANENTLY :D:D:D

My fault, obviously I musta "threw the horse over the fence, some hay" (ancient classic example of poor sentence structure), 'cause you weren't the only one :ashamed: ...Steve

Punctuation and use of capitalization are equally important to context. For example: “I helped my Uncle Jack, off his horse.”

/ Container Weld Shop build - #139
My biggest concern right now is how did Uncle Jack get on his horse if he had to be helped off?

Well that just proves it, a picture still is worth 999 words +1, thanks a bunch for that (AKA non-existent) pic, (AKA non-existent) pic,.

I got stuck over at that link you gave (Tips and Tricks) for over a hour, and still didn't get through half of them, lot of them tips I knew, a lot I agree with, only one that made me hiccup over, the one where changing the mig liner every 50 lbs of wire, I was thinking more like 500 lbs. At the shipyard, 50 lbs could be after one day of welding full bore. Although I have noticed that 100s mig wire wares a liner a lot faster than 70s, but still a lot of good tips there on that site.
