I have a request with respect to how the Search function works. Apparently, it does a logical OR on the search terms, such that if any of the terms are found in a post, they are returned by the search. If more than one search term is provided, the number of results is vastly increased. But usually the idea when including multiple terms in the search criteria is to narrow the results. That is done by doing a logical AND on the search terms.

Here's my request: It would be nice if there were a way of selecting the logical AND or OR for the way the search terms are evaluated. That gives folks the option of leaving the search the way it is, or adding the capability of narrowing the search results by specifying additional search terms.

If you want bigger text, the control is at your fingers, literally. Hold down the Control key and hit +. Each time you hit plus it steps up one notch. The - key makes it smaller the same way. Even easier - Hold down Control and use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out. Can't say what the Mac equivalent it, if there is one. I use it all the time to zoom in on something small and then zoom back out to normal size, and my normal size is often 120 or 130% to make it easier to read.

The Mac equivalent to the control key is the command key, which operates in the same way as you've just outlined, at least with the Firefox web browser on a MacBook Pro laptop.

I don't seem to have the preferences setting in my profile. I have logged out and in. Is this just me?

I'd like to add that it's pretty dang cool that we now can simply copy an image from Google or whatever and paste it on the text editor and it's good to go.

Adding images is now much much more easy, along with resizing it.

Question: I like to include photos. But I realize this slows download for anyone still on dialup.

Are there many people today bothered by photos in a thread? (I edit my own photos to under 250k but linked photos may be larger).

I don't think a true dial up internet connection would work for much except text these days. The images are just too large, not to mention all the software that comes down with the more dynamic pages.

The satellite internet services I've had have all had problems with both speed and data caps. I size my uploaded images to be 12" wide at 96 dpi, and they look pretty good. That comes out to about 70 kb for a jpg image. The default size of images from the iPhone camera makes a file somewhere around 5Mb in size, and haven't figured out yet how to whittle them down. They take a long time to come back down, and even longer to upload.

Let's just say... if you have dial-up... you're on your own. :ROFLMAO:

Probably would need an image blocker and an ad blocker just to navigate anything.

Added folders for subscribed (watched) threads on my home link.

For those of you who had old folders, sorry but they couldn't be carried over.

Are you pulling your hair out yet Muhammad? Every number of years my wife has to deal with upgrading software and all the issues that comes with it. I think she has officially said she will not go through it again. I case you haven't heard it lately, thank you.

I'm the same way, old habit of resizing to keep images well under 400K. Smarty phones can take one image and bam-o, these are 7Mb or more.

The question then is, does the site resize and reduce the file size? hmmmm

My biggest issue with editing old posts is the ability to just blank out old posts that can ruin a thread. It doesn't delete the quotes within replies so that becomes a mess where the original post has been edited by the quotes have not, so conflicting posts will be in the thread.

If there's a safety or legal concern you can report the post and a moderator will edit it.
One example I have is a thread where I posted a modification. As time went on I found improvements or better information that would clear up the original post. Since I couldn't edit the original post I had to add on to the end. People that find that post and don't read through the whole thing will never see the undated info.

I don't see a big deal if the original info is in a quote further down as long as we could update the original info to make more sense to readers that may happen on to it from a search.

I vote to keep the new Smilies.

The "Recently used" section, means you don't have to scroll down looking for them next time you want to post it. (y)

Just noticed the search box, I will have to try it:

The search box in the emoji dialog box does work. Just the other day I used it to find the checkered flag emoji, using "checkered" as the search criteria.

As far as the emojis themselves go, the more the merrier. I miss the old emojis, but have gotten used to the new ones as well, since they're more or less the same as the ones on Facebook.

I think that's a case where its reasonable to 'Report' your original post and ask a moderator to add a line (that you provide) referencing your later updated post.
