What type of battery charger should be used to charge a 4DLT battery on a backhoe? Is the battery suppose to show a charge of more than 12 volts? Is there anything else that I need to know in order to perform this function?

Positive to positive, negative to negative with the charger set at 12 volts. Remove the cables and clean the posts and inside of the clamps first if you haven't done so in a year or so. Clean, bright & tight; negative off first and back on last. Charging voltage should run 13.5 to 14.5 or so.

Any 12v battery charger should work just fine.

I personally like the lower amp chargers if you arent in a hurry. 1 or 2 amp trickle overnight kinda thing. Better for the battery.

Make sure it is full of water too. Most 4DLT batteries arent maintenance free....

Also, I like to hook the charger cables up first, then plug in charger. Same with unhooking.....unplug the charger FIRST, then unhook the cables. No sparks that way.
