Cat 1 measurements

Went to attach my recently purchased YM tiller to my YM1500 and discovered that I couldn't make it fit. The drive shaft was too long and the top link was too long. I assumed that I had a standard cat 1 set up but apparently I do not.

So plan 'A' was to get a shorter top link and cut the drive shaft. No go............. the shorter top link is for cat 0 and the pins I have are too large. The one I have is 20.5" center to center at it's shortest length.

Then I got to looking at the arms and it seems that the standard cat 1 arms in stock are 32" long. The cat 1 arms on my Yanmar are 24". THAT seems to be my problem. Short arms.

So tell me. what is the length (center to center) on your cat 1 arms? It looks like all my problems will be solved by simply cutting the ends off my arms and adding 6".

Thanks, I remember that. He was responding to me at the time as I was trying to solve my side to side sway. I fixed that.

Looking at those pictures again, the lower arms appear to be about 36" long even tho the ones he made are 26" long. Mine are 24" long and I think I need to alter them to make them 36" long.

There are universal TPH replacement kits readily available that should be easier and safer (and maybe cheaper) than trying to modify what you've got. I priced one for my YM240 a couple years back; $125 plus freight I think.

I had a YM1700 with a RS style tiller. It had a special top link that made it all work out right. A regular top link would not work.

Oh, I thought it was a style of tiller.

So why won't a regular top link work? It appears to be setup for a normal 3pt connection.

Agri-supply has shorter (13 and 16 inch) CAT 1 toplinks. They also have CAT 0 toplinks (7 and 9 inch) if the CAT 1's are too long. If you use the CAT 0, get a couple of pins and bushings so the fit stays the same.
Much easier and less expenive than cutting and welding your lift arms.

Actually it pivots in the middle, making the lifting geometry different.
