Lows in the mid 40's, highs in the mid 60's. I think we skipped winter this year. Feels like spring, the trees and grass think it's spring, even got my spring allergies going. If we could just get a little rain, some snow up higher things would be dandy. Actually we did have winter; sub-freezing temps, 8" of snow; took about a week in December. Have more wood piled up than I have few a few years, because I'm not burning it.

Sleepy: I keep hearing about the forest fires and no rain in sight for you folks out in CA. Hope things turn around for ya.

It's finally cold enough (10 - 20 above) this week to refreeze the thawed ground around here. The last 3 weekends have either been too warm or outright raining to get out into the woods to fetch some downed trees that I've been eyeing since the Summer. Maybe this weekend!

If I had chains, and more daylight hours in the evening, some tree work might be possible. If it stayed frozen enough... like Baby Grand just mentioned, most of the time its just too sloppy... and the wife complains about the tore up ground. I had to put some gravel on the path to the manure pile it was gettin rutted out where I cross the yard. It should smooth out and grow grass come spring but looks bad now.

I love the winter at the cottage, two and half hours north of Toronto Canada.

I live in a boreal (mixed) forest at my cottage, and the snow looks so beautiful on the trees in the winter.

I love going out and clearing the snow with the snow thrower.

I love sitting out on the deck and watching the sun go down, all bundled up with perhaps a glass of wine in my hand.

I love getting on the ATV, and driving around on the lake, after the snowmobiles packed down the snow. If it is icy and clear, I love doing 360s on the ATV and just scooting around on the ice.

I love cross country skiing through the trail in the woods, where it is extremely quiet because the snow muffles everything.

I love seeing the tracks in the snow, and trying to figure out what critter made them. I am very excited when it is a Fisher, as it is a rarely seen animal, and so cool.

I love the New Year's Eve skating party at our neighbors cottage, where he spends hours and hours and hours getting the rink just right for the crowd to arrive.

I love pulling a neighbor out of the ditch with my F1 50, and boasting about my Michelin X ice winter tires.

I love driving through deep snow on the cottage Road, with those same tires.

I love breaking through the ice on the creek that runs in front of our cottage, just to see if it will all pile up and cause a little flood.

I love sitting in front of the wood burning fire, while a blizzard rages outside.

I love sitting in front of the big fire outside as well, if the weather permits.

I love sitting in the hot tub on our deck, my wife and I catching big snowflakes with our tongues as they gently fall.

I love seeing the snow all built up on the railing of the deck in the morning, is this tells us how much has fallen over the course of the night.

I love throwing snowballs up in the air, so the dog can catch them as they come down. He's not very good at it, but he sure loves to do this! Actually, the dog seems to love the snow more than we do! He is always rubbing his face in it, and I am amazed at what he can sniff out through a lot of snow.

I love seeing the deck all nicely shoveled and clean, after me and my wife get some good exercise doing it!

And, yes, I love seeing it all melted away in the spring, and seeing the little tiny Creek turning into a raging torrent that you can hear for a mile or more away on the lake, and finally seeing the gravel of my driveway again.

Then, I love going over and working on the old boathouse crib on the rental property, because the lake is so low in the spring that it is the best time to work.

Yes, life can be good in the winter. It certainly is for us.

Skinning a knuckle isn't usually that much fun. Doing it when your hands are frozen...... let's just say I have a whole set of "special" words for those occasions.

Still, I make sure I thank the Mechanical Gods when I'm done - for being able to do it in the driveway, not at the side of the road, or somewhere even crazier.

How many have sat in the shade of summer's 90-110F heat and wished for winter to hurry up and get here only to then sit bundled up and wish for spring.

Count me in as one of those people. I curse about the heat and wish for the cold and then when it's cold I curse about the cold and wish it were hot again. lol

We did have a near 70F day a few days ago. It was nice while it lasted. Today is only supposed to be 20F.

There's a tuff Canuck for Ya ! (Said in my best Don Cherry voice :D )

Windchill Schmindchill, Eh !

Hope you have heated grips and seat, and never run out of gas and spares.

(Just wishing him well.... nobody goes sledding that kind of distance in this kind of weather if they don't know what they're doing. Well, not more than once anyway.)

Have a good trip ! Pics please !

DeereMann, enjoy today and tomorrow. By Monday the forecast says teens and twenties in the hole again.

With that hard of hit yel, you're lucky you don't have major injuries.

A guy I know wrote off his sled hitting an ice-plug a fisherman hauled out of the lake this winter. He was moving along, but nothing like wide-open. No broken bones, but he'll be at least a few months getting back normal use of one shoulder and hand.

It can happen quick. Hope you were with other sleds, 50 miles is a bit of a walk !

Maybe cabin-fever doesn't look so bad after all !!!!

Finally... a warm day! Took a ride on the tractor... oldest boy and I cleaned out horse stalls, pig pen, and rabbit pens... good to be out in jeans and just a long sleave shirt and be comfortable!

Tractor therapy... works wonders.

Picture from yesterday... on the horizon, house is in the middle, to the left of that, the barn, then the rental house.

Second day of rain here in East TX and the high temp is expected to hit 40. I'll keep busy working on some shelves for a client, but two days of rain is about all I can stand for being indoors. Sometimes I'd rather be at work then inside the house for an entire day. I don't know how you guys do it where it gets really cold.
