I've got a bit of field grass to mow, but mostly forest edge with Oriental bittersweet vines and saplings I intend to keep at bay. I do have the occasional rock 4-8 inch rock sneaking it's way out of the ground.

Is the Landpride 1860 durable enough for this or would something along the lines of a Bushhog 280 series make more sense? Can the 7800 handle it?

As I understand it the LP is a light duty mower and the BH is a medium duty.

thanks

Checked implement limitations...

B7800 / B2910 / B2710
Mower: Rotary-cutter (1 Blade)
Max. cutting width: 48"
Max. weight: 500 lbs.

Woods offers HC54 (Heritage) 54" mower with slip-clutch (485 lbs.) and is under the listed max. weight. HC48 (48") mower meets both max. specifications in owners manual. No doubt, B7800 can power a 60" rotary-cutter in most situations... weight may be the deciding factor.
(Woods brand used as example only... )

Wow! It was my dealer that recommended the 5 foot Land Pride @ 609 lbs. Based on the numbers you posted, the 7800 isn't even close to lifting it.

Definitely would rule out the medium duty Bush Hog

I'd be willing to bet your B7800 would lift the Land Pride 1860. Factory specs take into consideration how much weight remains on front wheels when you are transporting mower from field to field.

FEL or weights on front of tractor should keep front wheels on ground with a heavy mower on back. The specs I used could be dated, but sound within reason considering the operating weight of B7800 without attachments.

Kubota's specs appear conservative to me... I'm comfortable staying within their limits. Hasn't been long since I lost a neighbor, rolled his tractor taking a short-cut.

That's a scar thought, dying on a tractor which does so much work for us and gives us so much pleasure as well.

So assuming 7800 is srong enough and balanced enough with the loader on the front to handle the 5 foot Landpride, is the Landpride durable enough to handle light brush/vines and the occasional rock on my property?

I have a 60" light duty rotary cutter for my B2910 (same tractor as B7800 with more features). It's weight is about 500 lbs. The tractor handles the rotary mower very well. In some grasses I need to slow down to stop bogging engine down. The 18 series Land Pride is a heavier model than the 15 series that would match my JD rotary cutter. The added 100 lbs may still work OK though.

I run a Woods BrushBull 60 rotary cutter. You might want to look at the specs on that.

It just ate another 4 acres yesterday with the B, and I have the sunburn to prove it.

I go through switchgrass pastures and well. It is thicker and higher than fescue. I mow in high at 2k-rpms. People have told me , they thought I had a finishing mower, <- there is a quality cut statement.

IMHO, you will be impressed by this cutter, tractor combo.

I'd say to go with the Bush Hog Squealer which is rated to 1" cutting capacity for a B7800. Even if you have big stuff to begin with cut it with a saw and then go through and if kept mowed it won't be that big again.

We grow stones in central NY! Just joking, but the frost keeps bringing them up every year and the best thing todo if you can't remember where they are after the first time it might be time to pick a few!

Mowing with the loader on leaves good counter weight as well as a place to put those rocks!

I have been using the LandPride 1860 for over a year and have had no problems at all. I use it on my B7800 (with newly installed dent on hood but that is for another thread).
I have very steep property and it has no problem mowing thick grass while moving up the hill.
My previous set up used a Land Pride 1560 and I destroyed it. I was going to go with the mid level Bush Hog but my dealer matched the price and I went with an orange 1860.
I really do not understand why this is even a question. You will have no problems with that match up. No weights required.
